I just assumed she was the next xompanion and this was the way of introducing her early, so the changeover next series between assitants would be smoother. My mind works too simply. Occum's razor has sliced away my complexity!

Apparently David Tennant is now dating Georgia Moffett, of "Hello dad" fame...

Really? I thought he'd been with Sophia Myles for a while now. When did he start with Georgia moffatt?

Liked this episode...seems like they're doing their level best to create as many loose ends as possible for Moffat to use next series. I imagine (read: hope) that Tate ends up with her dream husband and stops travelling around with the doctor so someone else can take over. And somewhere down the line (probably quite a way away), we'll have River Song arrive. The more I think about it, the more it seems like Doctor Who will be around for a long time to come.

I imagine River Song will be next series (and several after's) companion. And from her comments, Tennant will be the Doctor for a while too
It was a frustrating episode though really. Answered one or two immediate questions, but not any of the long-term ones!! Also, how was

Not necessary that Tennant remains the Doctor for that long a time as previous shows have referred on a number of occasions to events we've not seen. So it's possible all of the Riversong adventures happen when we're not watching!!! Would however say that this would suck.
Good episode overall though, some bits of genius I don't think anyone saw coming and some bits of stupidity which everyone did.

See to me River Song's comments implied that we wouldn't be seeing her as a companion for a while. I feel it would make more sense from a storytelling point of view if the Doctor had plenty of time to do other stuff and forget (or at least not have at the front of his mind) about her for a while. Emotionally then, when he does meet her, his reaction will be more interesting, I feel.
The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am with the way that the Doctor manages to get the Vashta Nerada to make a deal. He really does trade on reputation far too much. I mean, what was he going to do to them? It seemed like one giant bluff...
This episode was very much a set up episode - Moffat was taking the chance to sow some seeds for when he takes over, I feel. Which is good - I think Doctor Who would be more interesting if there were old acquaintances for him to run into every now and again.

I quite like the way that the Doctor would rather play on his reputation and bluff his way through things - we do, after all, know that he's capable of effortlessly and comprehensively fucking up his enemies (see The Family of Blood) and quite willing to do so when the need arises. The only things that seem to stop him doing this straight away and all the time is his own conscience and his companion.
And one of the things I like about Donna as a companion is that she doesn't let him get away with it. I suspect that in the aforementioned episode she'd have had words with him about the operatic levels of nastiness he was indulging himself in; whereas Rose would just do the big, googly eye thing and say how wonderful he was (which I think is what Martha actually did)

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Pretty good episode this week. That old chick creeped me out and it was nice to see the Doctor do a solo adventure.
Rose is back next week. It'll be interesting for sure.
