  1. Who would play whom in the movie?

    21 November 2018 - 08:20 AM

    So ...

    Who are your picks?

Being an Aussie, I figured Casper could be Joel Edgerton, or maybe a suitably grimed-up Hugh Jackman.

Don't know any Canadian redheads, could only think of Jessica Chastain or Julianne Moore for Sam.
Figured Bryce Dallas Howard was a bit young and maybe not good enough to carry off the 'take no prisoners' badassery.
Maybe the lady doctor from Murdoch Mysteries with a red tint?

The fun begins with who plays Murdo(ch), Preident Raine Kent (Alec Baldwin? ;) ), the Canadian PM, The Russian and Chinese bosses and all their science advisers.

    The AI voices?

Simon (Elon) Gist? I think it says he's Nigerian?

    Kolo? (DR Congo).

    The Adonis (Koch) brothers?

I immediately thought of Shohreh Aghdashloo as the UN Secretary General.

Joey Sink the conspiracy buff? Nonny Mouse and King Con (voices) his top contributors?

    Thoughts?
  2. REJOICE! A Knife To The Heart

    Thanks for that. :p

I'm halfway through Rejoice and really enjoying it. Rejoicing, you might say.

The conversational style isn't putting me off like the latter Jack Whyte books did, even though both acted to present the writer's opinion.
Maybe that's because Whyte's became circular and interminable but SE's is taut and lean as it's a solo book focus. And the use of thinly-veiled real life characters to represent many different viewpoints makes it easier to take in as well, I guess.
This is where SE's predilection for philosophical musing enhances rather than detracts.

EDIT: hopefully the movie rights will be snapped up by someone good. It would be pretty cheap to make, and since Arrival did pretty well, and other sorts of movies based on conversations in rooms ... fingers crossed.

    EDIT2: can a Mod please make a ded-thread here?

    https://forum.malaza...-eriksonlundin/

EDIT3: Cool quote that kind of sums up the big question -
“There lies our immediate task. Determining, individually and collectively, what has to be over what we think has to be. We are being invited to seek a new definition of human nature, no more, no less, and surely you can see that this determination now poses the greatest challenge our species has ever faced.”
  3. Cool Science Stuff

    Team Sith 4 eva!

    I love these two sites:

    https://www.sciencedaily.com/

    https://futurism.com/

To kick things off - are you pro using animals to grow human parts for transplants? Against? Pro, but with reservations/restrictions?

    https://futurism.com...-hybrid-embryo/

I'm personally quite pro the whole thing. We already eat animals and use them for a whole bunch of things, so why not? It's not much of a further step, just an extra product really.

Obviously subject to the same oversight to be as humane as possible and so we don't produce any sorts of fucked-up chimaeras. Which of course some will, because someone always does. An unfortunate side effect of general progress.
