Yes well we don't have a crazy theory thread for TOH yet...So I am going with it.

Does any one remember what color Karsa's dog was? A quote perhaps? Is it possible that the dog on the cover was Karsa's?
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Here ya go Venge!

"HoC, on Ch 1", said:

Gnaw, black and grey hide barely visible beneath splashes of gore, panted up to stand beside Havok, his muscles twitching but no wounds showing. Karsa glanced back and saw that four more dogs remained, whilst a fifth had lost a foreleg and limped a red circle off to one side.

He can't be the dog on the cover - unless Lockwood got the color wrong!

EDIT: Found two more quotes that pretty much clinch that the dog in the prologue is Gnaw:

Quote

Ten paces beyond lay Gnaw, leaving his own blood-trail as, back legs dragging, he continued towards the body of his mate. He raised his head upon seeing Karsa. Pleading eyes fixed on the warleader’s.

Bellowing, Karsa ran down two of the villagers and left their twitching corpses sprawled in the muddy street. He saw another, armed with a rust-pitted mattock, dart between two houses. The Teblor hesitated, then with a curse he swung about and moments later was crouched beside Gnaw.

A shattered hip.

And later...

Quote

"I shall return to you, my friend," he whispered. "Failing that, find a way to heal, then journey home. Home, among the Uryd." The Teblor cut a thong of leather from his armour strappings. He tore from his belt-bag a handful of bronze sigils bearing the tribal signs, then strung the thong through them. None hung loose, and so would make no sound. He tied the makeshift collar round Gnaw’s thick, muscled neck. Then he laid one hand lightly upon the dog’s shattered hip and closed his eyes. "I gift this beast the soul of the Teblor, the heart of the Uryd. Urugal, hear me. Heal this great fighter. Then send him home. For now, bold Urugal, hide him... Make fierce your long life, Gnaw. We will meet again, this I vow upon the blood of all the children I have slain this day."

I actually thought it was silly of K'rull to say he hadn't seen Kruppe dance "by word". Dancing from word to word, weaving one sentence through another, is all Kruppe does when he speaks.

I took that pretty much the other way apt, as if K'rul in that sentance was telling us that we'd yet to truly see Kruppe for the real Kruppe, for his wit, for his speech, for his abilities and so on and so forth. I have a hunch we'll see beneath Kruppe's usual outward appearance and see just what he's capable of in this book.

Hmm, maybe... One question that always bothered me, what is Kruppe's warren????

Re: Kruppe's waren--I'm pretty sure it's Mockra
In GotM Murillioo figurres out that he's the Eel and confronts him, Kruooesay s something like "Very good. Now, you'll forget it all" and so Murillio does immidiately.

Re-first PoV. I've read Treach's dying scene yesterday, and that may be what's making me think this, but I'm getting the idea that the dead village is somepart of the Firstr Empire that was trapped in the breaking down of KE during the Ritual of the Beast--basically, a part of KE collapsed on itself, encircling a fragment of the First Empire within itself.
now, my reasoning beyond this crazy theory (and it can be little else), is that apparently Otatarall was created by the Ritual (according to Treach). Makes me think the empire may have tried to combine the power of Jade witk KE with sundering consequences... ansd since we hear about jade in the first PoV, it might also be caught in a loop..
this would explain why Edgewalker is there, since we assume he's still confined to KE..

Now, feel free to tear this apart

I dont think its Kruppe. Too predictable. SE doesnt do predictable. Just because we have a section including Kruppe doesnt mean he's our POV guy.

Well, it was my guess because he was sitting around a fire, and was all like "witness". Perfect for telling stories. :p

Thats true... But I was thinking the tiny mention of the grey haired bard might be important. Duiker?

Hmmm, yes, yes. But SE said we should know him pretty well by now. Kruppe was at least a major role in more than one book.
...Still if we are to know him pretty well I'd assume one of the BB's or something.

I'd be extremely happy with Kruppe though!!

Hmmm, we have had Kruppe before in both MoI and GotM, Id prefer someone new, tho I do love the oily little man!

Well I know people don't like him, which supports SE statement about "love him or hate him", but I would love Karsa. It certainly can't be someone new though....

Wait a minute!....this conversation is turning into spam! It isn't technically about the prologue!

umm...

About the Teblor 'twins', I don't think they would be Karsa's daughters. They would be like 15 maybe a year or two more by now. Surely not about to come of age in Teblor standards. Although I do think that dog was his, no, I know it's his. I hope it rips someone's throught out!

Apsalar. Stole fire from the gods, and was cursed to saw forever at her chains. Sounds familiar.

I also agree that the bit with the dogs presages a conflict between Darkness and Shadow. Should be fun.

Kruppe is pretty likely as the "love him or hate him" source of narrative voice for the novel that SE mentioned. The synopsis of the book came across in Kruppe's PoV, and now we have the prologue ending with Kruppe beginning to tell a tale. SE said that what he's doing with the voice for this novel is something different--we do know him well, but, as K'rul points out, we haven't seen him dance. :p

I love hove the prologue ends with Kruppe saying "Witness!"
The book will be all about Karsa Orlong. :p

:p
The leader, his audience still,
considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"
