Ordered and just received Martin's "The Wit and Wisdom of Tyrion Lannister" for my boyfriend as a Christmas stocking stuffer - he doesn't read the books but loves the HBO series, and Tyrion is his favorite character.

Forge of Darkness is reigning over my desk, its cover equal parts fascinating and haunting. I'm afraid to even start it for fear of running out of fresh (to me) SE books.
On the other hand, The Darkness That Comes Before is lying right under the former, plus SE's reccomendation is on its face. Might as well be worth it, I guess.

Read the FoD Dramatis Personae and that alone will hook you. It's irresistible.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The Darkness That Comes Before is fucking awesome. Super awesome... but still not as awesome as Forge of Darkness... somehow. Those two books fucking rule.

Just bought Abercrombie's First Law trilogy on audible. Been 4 years since I've read these so I'm excited. Also bought Prince of Thorns and Song of Arbonne audiobooks. Read the Broken Empire already, now I'd like to listen to it.

It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I just finished book one of Raven Shadows, its called bloodsong. I was enthralled from start to finish.
I dont think the blurb does it justice
An epic fantasy exploring themes of conflict, loyalty and religious faith. Vaelin Al Sorna, Brother of the Sixth Order, has been trained from childhood to fight and kill in service to the Faith. He has earned many names and almost as many scars, acquiring an ugly dog and a bad-tempered horse in the process. Ensnared in an unjust war by a king possessed of either madness or genius, Vaelin seeks to answer the question that will decide the fate of the Realm: …who is the one who waits?
This is not a book about a warrior of a religion committing mass murder. Its the story of a boy growing up under horrendous conditions as h is forced to become the weapon they want him to be. There is more to it but I just really thought it was a well written piece

After plowing through the last eight eps of THE WHITE QUEEN over the last few days, I decided I wasn't satiated with Phillipa Gregory's tales about the War of the Roses, and I picked up THE WHITE PRINCESS in hardcover.
Is it very female romance lovey dovey shit on paper or badass battles and politics Tudor style?
It's Fantasy. There are actual witches who do witchy things in it.

Lies of locke Lamora has been one of favorite reads this year..
I re-read bloodsong, and read Divergent <movie is coming out> ok book, The red knight...
I really enjoyed the Red knight..I mean i didn't enjoy any aspects of it at firs<it jumps around alot>t. It bases a lot of its history on how would i put it religion..but has nothing to do with that. It has the Wyld..<wild> in a very much Wyld way if you know my meaning. I didn't like the writing style..
I love the way they describes knighthood..very dark and soldiereqsue. I'd recommend it as it very different..i wanna get some of you folks to try it out..its fun once it gets going..slow start..holy fast last half
Very old school fantasy..fun to see where he heads with it..as book 2 can only get better with this world of history with magic/wyld.

Recently gave myself an early Christmas gift: Perdido Street Station, the Scar, the Iron Council, the Woken Gods, Blue Blazes, Leviathan Wakes, Caliban's War, Abaddon's Gate, and finally Ancillary Justice. With the Bas-Lag books, I have recently been going to New Weird well without ever reading any CM so I thought it was time. I know some people have a problem with the politics presented in the books, more so on the the last one, but I doubt I'll have the same problem--being a budding socialist scholar myself. The Woken Gods have tricksters and is written by a woman (I've recently been trying to derisive my reading habits) and it got pretty good reviews so I through it in. Blue Blazes mixes like three of my favourite things: Crime Fiction from the POV of criminals, secret underworlds, and 'magic' drugs. The entire Expanse series I've heard is great things about, I was looking for some space opera and I've liked DA previous work so it seemed like a no-brainer. And finally Ancillary Justice, I heard nary I bad thing about it, it's written by a woman, and apparently is really good at get the reader to question their own gender biases. Yay.
Basically I'm gonna read after schools ends for the semester like I've never read before.
