Hm, I could probably teach you how to do it, maybe. I've never actually tried teaching anyone, but since I somehow make my brain release all those endorphins, I don't see why you couldn't do it too.

See that is point you people are missing. This is not a debate thread. Unless I have been wrong about how this whole forum runs in the first place. Threads are started for a purpose. This one was started JUST to ask if you a had a belief and if so a brief statement.

It's in the Discussion forum, so we should be able to discuss stuff if we want, and it shouldn't be a big deal. Everyone who wants to make their one post and go away is obviously welcome to. I see no reason why we can't discuss religion in a religion thread if we want.
I don't see it that way. That is why in MMHO this sub forum is a failure. It would be like going into the book forums and changing every thread to be about one thing. No matter what the thread was started for. Do you at least see where I am coming from with this? Even if you dissagree

Bubba said:

It seams that every thread in this sub-forum doesn't get the same treatment as the rest of this forum. Every thread in this area just gets spammed with THE argument.

Spammed? If you say so...it's a legitimate argument that takes many forms, and there's hardly any other purpose for this forum anyway. The only difference in treatment of this forum is that everyone seems to think that there are times when the subject is not up for debate, while on the regular discussion forum, no one makes such inane arguments.
The only reason there is no other purpose to this forum is because people are afraid to come in here.

Bubba said:

If you hate Beliefs, then start a thread for bashing them.

No one's hating that I've seen so far...and "beliefs" is a rather broad term. We all have beliefs. ;)

The let me put it this way, a faith based belief in a higher power.

I agree that this sub-forum is rather pointless. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the whole reason this forum was created was that people got offended by religion threads in the Discussions forum. So this forum was created so that the easily offended could more easily avoid religion discussions. Seeing as how the easily offended still find their way in here to bitch about the religion discussions, then obviously that idea didn't work too well.

Why not suggest other possibilities for discussion, then? I can't think of any...we could discuss whether Christianity is better/worse than Buddhism, or we could discuss apocalyptic prophecies or something. Got any better ideas? Of course, either of my suggestions would draw people like me to point out the absurdity of trying to pretend that one religion is better than another when they're all fables, or how absurd apocalyptic prophecies are, in general. ;)

@frookenhauer: That's exactly what I am saying - that I can apply tests to my belief. Please stop assuming things about me that you don't know. Please refer to my previous posts for more detail. My experience is that the trial/test technique work like a charm when it comes to my belief. I can feel God answering me when I pray, I notice his touch throughout my life etc. What I am saying is that, to me, that is no more strange than trusting the sounds I hear are correct, or the colors that I see are real. We learn from early age to acknowledge those senses - why not acknowledge the 'God-sense'? It's so obviously there. Tests, to me, shouldn't be limited to just the scientific-approved senses. Everything counts. Mind, body, soul, will.

That said, yes, a lot of my belief is trusting in something I cannot see in the normal sense. Sometimes feelings aren't even a part of it. But then there's the mind.

I repeat, I cannot, and will not try to explain your situation. You believe what you believe, and I go on believing what I believe.

Nope, this revelation is hot off the press, you may have alluded to it, but far be it for me to jump to conclusions about your beliefs ;) . Hold on one moment you 'feel' God when you pray? That's awesome! Have you considered that as a believer you have a sort of obligation to pray to the maker and once you fulfill your obligation you feel better? Just a thought.

Feel free to explain my situation, I've made my own case earlier and extrapolating ideas / concepts from data is fun...and funnily enough that's what we 're doing on this forum all the time. Don't go all defensive on me now, because this is very interesting.

@ Bubble I've been meaning to have a look at Mafia for some time now...

frookenhauer, in no way could I comment on your 'situation'. I don't know you, or what your world views are. I wasn't just making a point when I said I wouldn't do that. I meant it.

No, I haven't, because it's ridiculous. If you felt what I feel, you'd agree.

Thank you for for seeing what i'm saying. ;) I am going to start a thread or two. Just for you. ;) I feel I must make it plain for everyone, I have nothing against religious discussion, I welcome your point of views.

I thought I voted in this.. but I guess I didn't. or maybe since it was the old forum it got wiped.
so yeah, I'm a Christian. Ukrainian Greek catholic (Uniate). strenth of my belief is questionable, but I my self-concept is largely built around the fact that Im a Uki (nationalist upbringing in a newly-independent state), and the Church had an important historical role in the shaping of the nation I identify myself with. It is also a link to my grandparents, as it was my grandmother that taught me to pray. While I may not put much value into it, I still pray every night, and have been doing so consciously ever since i started Uni (3 years ago). Not big at all on church attendance, or participation in organised religion, but I do consider myself Christian.

Don't take this the wrong way, mentalist but for a moment there I thought you said you were (urinate). A couple of double takes later and my temporary dyslexia cleared up.

Oh and has gem given up? Hope not.

not education only. i think being religious is like winning the lottery - it's pure random chance. depending on where you are born and who you are born to, and how generally subborn you are.

that being said, i challenge any atheist to say that in their darker moments they never, albeit briefly, considered the possibility of a higher being.

beside, you can't judge based on the statistics alone. i mean, judging by the statistics for this forum, it could be claimed that there is an affinity between books and heretics.

Question:

Does being the only sane person in the world make you insane?

If a tree falls in the woods and a deaf person saw it, does it make a sound?
