Mercy has no place in professional sport. Sportsmanship, good grace etc sure... but mercy disappears as soon as you start getting paid to participate.

Your opinion is as valid as any other's, Bwoody. :p
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

The British invented sport. Our opinion counts as double validity. ;)

Anyways I am looking forward to these games, but I won't be able to watch them tonight so I have a friend Sky plussing it and we're watching it tomorrow... So I won't be going online cos I know someone will try and spoil it for me... :)

Only occasionally :)

Anyway, I have hit upon a method of being guaranteed supporting a Superbowl winner... I will support all four teams, in the following order: Saints, Vikings, Colts, Jets. Well, maybe not the Jets...

Here we go. Tiste, stay out of this thread if you are watching the game later. I might be doing a running commentary.

OK this is me signing off until probably tuesday. A bunch of us are hanging out tomorrow evening for games and also watching this match. So I think my computer will be off tomorrow. We will be doing the same for the day after the Superbowl (most of us have jobs and can't really stay up til 4am...) I think I will rent a bunch of movies and not leave my room that day! ;)

And the whole of civilization outside of Indiana will be rooting for the Saints. Oh well.

Hmm i was worried about the colts at halftime, but they came out fo halftime ready to play.

The vikings can only blame themselves and the refs on that 4th and 1 call that i think PT didnt get as the ball got knocked backwards. But they shot themselves with 5 turnovers.

haha, poor HD.

This is interesting, really, that the last two teams that the Aints will face this season, the season of their first Superbowl ever, are quarterbacked by Saints boys, by association anyway. One because his dad played for the Saints for so many years (and for the other years, incidentally, for the Vikings), and the other because he grew up about 40-50 miles from the Superdome, with no other NFL teams for hundreds of miles around (though he never liked the Saints, of course, because they were a sorry team that only the diehard locals gave a shit about), and he didn't move far when he went to college (my school is a little over an hour out of New Orleans, and incidentally, our colors are black and gold). Peyton and his dad played for Ole Miss, which is in north Mississippi, law school and John Grisham country, and up there, Tennessee is closer.

I felt bad for Brett when he threw that interception, but it was almost expected.

@HD, I have actually seen a good bit of talk from the Colts side on Facebook already, from local people. Brett wasn't the only one that gave up on the Aints years ago. ;) I only watched bits of the game, though I watched the whole OT and a couple of minutes before, and that is the most football I have watched in I don't know how long.

Also, I wonder if I could get someone to give me 500 to 1 odds on Brett Favre paying someone from the Colts to take out Brees in the Superbowl so he can try to hop teams again next season.

Minor correction, Terez: Eli played at Ole Miss, Peyton went to Tennessee.

Early line is Colts by 4. I expect that to drop towards a true pick'em game with close to a zero point spread.
