Oh hell yes!! I cannot wait for this!

Caleb's interwoven story should prove compelling and Jester is going to steal every scene she is in just like the live show with Laura. She is a delight of a character.

I thought season 4 would be a good place for me to jump into critical role. I had no idea…

4 hour episodes that drop weakly! Who has the time?

Start with season 1 and listen to the podcast version while doing other things (and don't feel shame about fast-forwarding through combat)

Has anyone finished the first series of Mighty Nein?

Mr NAB and I absolutely loved Vox Machina but have stalled hard on this. It's possibly a not being in the mood for something darker issue but we pushed through the first three episodes and were just very "eh" about it. It's Mr NAB's favourite campaign of the first three in the original podcast so he was quite surprised to not be gelling with it.

Just finished Mighty Nein S1.

1. well, making one of your characters an alcoholic child is certainly a choice.

2. well, killing multiple children on screen in your first three eps is another choice.

3. ...and handwaving that your main characters are directly responsible for all those dead children is, well....

4. did four of the main characters really need to be associated with and/or possessed by mysterious magical forces? Four? Really?

....I otherwise enjoyed it, albeit not nearly as much as i enjoyed Vox. The action was fun, the characters did grow on me, i like the underlying 'stop the war' plot. I will watch the next season, but i hope they give a little more thought to the writing side.

What? She's a goblin posing as a child, not an actual child goblin, right? According to the wiki: "Sam stated that her goblin form was that of an seven- or eight-year-old goblin, an adult goblin".

[contains spoilers:] Veth Brenatto - Critical Role

Okay possibly a goblin posing as an alcoholic child... it's been a little while since I watched it. I don't think she drinks (much?) while she's pretending to be a child---plus maybe she's French? (Kidding!)

They do say the singer is a child though.

I also looked up how old the priest is supposed to be, she's at least 18. But they do make her look a bit too child-like perhaps. Even for a tiefling.

On 4... Vox Machina had at least three party members "associated with and/or possessed by mysterious magical forces"
Spoiler
though arguably not as "mysterious", especially

So the internet tells me that Nott is not a child, ok, fine, but they didn't even imply that in the actual show.

Of the the three party members in Vox that you raise, only the gun is in play at the beginning of the show. The others happen as a consequence of events in the show. Here, Jester has her probably fake god, ok, fair enough, it's a fun subplot, but then we have Ford's possession on introduction and all very mysterious, whatever's going on w Molly all very mysterious, and Widowmaker limited but yes, very mysterious.

There is a scene where I think it is Bo talking to Nott about the parent / child relationship between Nott and Caleb with Bo thinking Caleb is the parent. Nott corrects her though stating she is the parent and her job is to protect Caleb.

It's this scene that is meant to start making you think.

Nott will probably have the best development over the series, there is a reason she drinks...

k yes i see how that could work. I was aware of Nott's plotline before the show was announced, but they're being subtle about it, and that along w all the child murder just left me wondering how much was being done because messed up and dead animated kids are funny, apparently.

They did say that they wanted Mighty Nein to be darker and grittier than Vox Machina so there is that.

Toya for instance, what happens to her is changed to become darker, they wanted the group to suffer shared trauma to help bring them together.

demon frog thing kills bystanders - 'darker and grittier'
demon frog thing turns parent into demon who then jumps on their child and proceeds to rip them to shreds with blood flying everywhere, on screen - trying too hard

They could have done everything they did there and aged her up just a tiny bit.

And i get the shared trauma but wow did they handwave shared fault, because everything happened there directly because Bo jumped Caleb.
