I think the argument is something along the lines of picking X amount of actors based on 'woke factors' X Y and Z to satisfy criteria (so essentially, tokenism), rather than the actors being picked on merit of their acting. Don't quote me on that though because 'forced diversity' as a complaint seems like a Q rabbit hole and fucked if I'm peering into one of those.

This is pretty much my line of thinking.

I see, and what evidence do you have that these people were not chosen on the merit of their acting, and that someone did it for tokenism reasons?

For example, Stephen Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) for starters has a long TV pedigree of acting on his resume that qualifies him...you think he was chosen to check a box and that he can't act, or someone else would be better in the role?

I mean, why don't you list out the people you think have been cast on this show for "forced diversity" reasons?

Please, enlighten us....just so we can be clear what's being said.

It's not my argument so you'd have to ask someone who actually thinks like this. My post is just what my understanding / assumption of the argument is. For the record it's a position I entirely disagree with; I am with you in terms of someone's resume / skill is what qualifies them to the role they're playing.

I'm too tired to keep the discussion up. Let's stay on topic.

Yup - if white people get the role, it's because they're obviously the best person for it, but when someone not white gets it, it's because of the woke brigade and just pandering to liberals? That's basically the argument of many...

I agree...not to mention Milly Alcock has a great, very expressive face for that kind of thing. It's gonna be sad to see her go. She seems to have had a pretty healthy TV resume before this (at least in Australia), but I suspect she may have made an even bigger splash than the showrunners were expecting.

Ten years later.

Massive improvement on the wigs, particularly the Velaryon wigs look a lot more convincing.

Queen Alicent's confidant doesn't fuck around, huh?

I have to look up the name of the actress who played adult Laena. She's gorgeous.

Vhagar looked very old and not as agile as other dragons.

The last decade hasn't been kind to King Viserys, as he now looks really decrepit, and I'm surprised he hasn't finished his model of the city of Valyria after ten years.

Why is nobody doing anything about the Red Keep's rat problem?

This series seems to be getting better and better with each passing episode.

Dang, crazy episode. This is firing on all cylinders now.

What's up with the difficult child birth in this show? - "sound guy, workshop some ideas, I'm thinking we'll try some cabbages being torn apart and jello being squished through a colander, that should be a good starting point and we can layer on other ideas from there."

Formation of assassin cabal. Larys is one evil sumbitch. Someone's gotta take it across the line though, he's the Littlefinger that gets it done. I may be recalling it incorrectly, but the tongueless members and the bee pendent has either been something described in the novels or was in GoT? Or am I wrong on that?

Bastard theme on full display. So integral and a part of the DNA, and echos through the years to the snowman Jon.

And dang, it's on like donkey kong now. Shit's gonna get real.

That's because Vhagar is one of the three Dragons that Aegon the Conquerer and his sisters/wives Visenya and Rhaenys rode when they came to conquer the 7 Kingdoms. The only surviving one actually in the timeframe of the show. Aegons dragon, the biggest, Balerion the Black Dread died when Viserys was a child and it's his skull that is present in the Red Keep on display in the background of some shots. Rhaenys dragon was Meraxes, and died with her on an attack on Dorne. Visenya's dragon Vhagar was the last survivor of the three that kept having clutches of eggs, and doesn't die for a few years yet. She's cranky AF and has a deep and unabiding temper.

Despite the episode being a bit of a table re-setter after a decade time jump, I found it did really well at catching up and showing us where all the pieces currently are. I'm glad the time jumps keep happening (not big ones, there are a few more to age up the kids to young adults) as we have not even hit the DANCE yet. I've heard that starts proper in like Ep 9 and from that point onwards through the second season and whatever it will happen in a single time.

The adult versions of the two leads did a great job, and I even think that Emma D'Arcy is really going to show us something special as Adult Rhaenyra.

Yeah, I read that in his final years Balerion struggled immensely to take flight, and on the very few times he managed to do so he couldn't fly long distances.

The name of the actress who played adult Laena is Nanna Blondell. I hope we see more of her in other projects.

The Pink Dread is going to be the last one standing when season 8 finishes. He will snort his snout at the Iron Throne and it will melt into delicious bacon.

Serious thought though, now that masturbatory balcony sunrise boy (Aegon) won't have the bastards to corrupt and bully his younger brother, he's going off the rails big time now, right? Like its not looking good for the little brother at all right now. Worse, he'll probably act out on his worst inclinations in who knows what twisted ways. He's going to be Joffrey ver2.0 (or I guess 1.0 based on time frame *wink/nudge).

Also, anyone notice that Daemon was sort of chubby looking? Got complacent and cooled of temperament in the 10 years? I'm guessing that will change now.

I just read that Rhaenyra gained weight from her pregnancies which she never lost, yet she still looks pretty slim after three pregnancies as portrayed by Emma D'Arcy. I guess they've chosen to keep her slim in the same way they did with Lysa Arryn in GoT, who in the books is described as having gained a significant amount of weight but was portrayed by a slim actress.

Ah, fair, my bad. I felt like I was playing devil's advocate a bit by offering my understanding of the take anyway so this is a note to self to not respond to anything without coffee first ahaha.

Very sad, and what's worse is that they cut a scene with Daemon comforting his children for some bizarre reason. The whole episode stands largely to humanize Daemon and show that he really had largely moved beyond the things in Westeros...like right down to his "country Squire" wardrobe that didn't have a stitch of Targaryen colours in it, and him refusing to make the same call as Viserys with regards to a C-section, preferring to save his wife over the child...so leaving in the scene where he comforts his kids after what happened would have really hammered that home...to show the how and why he's clearly decided to go back, and be the Daemon of old. Weird choice on HBO's part really, but it's good to know they shot it anyways.

EDIT: Oh and seeing the eldest dragon in the world (Vhagar), known to be a cantankerous creature on the best of days...look upon Laena mother-to-mother with an "Are you sure? I don't really want to do this..." look was really emotional too....like how do these dragons have SUCH personality compared to the ones in GOT?

Because the dragons in GoT had the exact same model. Here every dragon has its own distinctive appearance that better reflects their personality.

When Aegon was masturbating on the window, am I the only one who got some serious Homelander vibes from that scene?

Havent' seen that, but Aegon getting caught in the act when his mom walks in is a popular trope.
