Why did the battle stop?

At that stage drek had 9 infantry or something and Twelve 8? But he had upgraded infantry and Sardakk PN.. Can someone explain to me?

Twelve did not commit any ground forces to the planet, so ground combat did no occur. All his ground forces remained in the space area of the system.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Dunno. But that was his choice, there's nothing left to resolve/decide before your turn.

He'd have been even odds to lose with d'reks mechs so would make sense not to go ahead. He has initiative over d'rek so should be able to take it back on his turn.

But why spend all those CTs preparing and still moving in the system in the first place then? Why trade for Tekklar Legion before even committing/not-committing the ground forces? Seems like he was planning to go for the ground attack right up until around the time Blend was resolving and then changed plans at the last second... no idea why, doesn't seem like it was anything in this/that thread itself.

I imagine it was bunker that changed the equation. As soon as he didn't get the bombard hits he expected there was no point invading.

Though you obviously had either bunker or parley. I still think you might have both :p

As you say, it was pretty clear I had at least one of them since I didn't build more on ixth. And Twelve went ahead and bought Tekklar Legion before seeing the bombardment plus he said he was invading (100%) in the post initially, so I think it was some other reason for the change. But whatever, it'll be an eternal mystery.

I think you are mistaking twelve making moves and trades whilst doing other things without having a lot of time for something else.

Just so it is clear, I was still resolving the battle when Twelve PM'd that he wanted to not invade if he didn't have enough hits on the bombardment. None of the resolution had been posted yet when he PM'd me so he had no extra information before making that decision. I had posted the full resolution for about 2 minutes, but immediately removed it as I saw Twelve's PM as soon as I hit post on the resolution.

That is not what we agreed twelve. That you didn't want to use my PN when you planned to shouldn't be my problem. But very well, I will return your PN for mine.

He's weighing up whether taking Twelve's planets is kicking a person when they're already buried 12 feet under a ditch.

How deep is the ditch? There might still be a tiny piece of Twelve visible...

It is tricky, on the one hand, he is down and I don't want D'rek to have free reign over that region. On the other hand, twelve has been weirdly agressive towards me all game, and is so far the only player to have attacked me. For a planet he must have known I could take back right away even if he won the fight. Not to mention away from his front, and in a nebula so he locked down his ships there. Why not just approach me diplomatically when he saw I'd be there first, I am sure he could have negotiated some concessions in return for leaving me be. It makes no sense to me and left me a little miffed, and now here we have two planets free for the taking.

Decisions decisions.

This round went a lot differently than I thought it was going to at the start of it... but I'm not one to turn down a free system
