From Metro (I know I know):

"Last month Google said that searches for Corona lager had increased by 1,100 per cent with people looking for 'beer virus' and 'corona beer virus'.

There is no link between coronavirus and Corona lager."

Sales down 10%

Thanks Obama!

And the Clintons' VirusGate! Lets get it trending on your racist Uncle's Facebook feed! Then only a matter of time before Fox News puts its rancid breath underneath it and then Trump is tweeting about it and a new chant is originated at his white nationalist rallies. Kick the Sick! Dems mean phlegm!

*chant needs work, but I'm sure Trump supporters can run with it and make it better.

Well, it's more likely that the Chinese created the virus as payback for the trade embargo. Clever of them to first release the virus in their own country.

4 cases in the us with no direct link to travel. I actually find that incredibly interesting. The link has to be there someway but i guess it shows how resilient a virus can be.

Still based on five minutes with google it seems when sars made it to the USA there was a grand total of 32 cases.

Trump reportedly put Pence in charge of the coronavirus because the VP didn't 'have anything else to do'

Also, I see what you did there Canadian newspaper, so zany and whimsical. You Canadians love yourself some Wayne Gretzky - "you get 100 percent of the coronavirus you don't prepare for."

"It is a sad day in our state as we learn that a Washingtonian has died from COVID-19. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. We will continue to work toward a day where no one dies from this virus.
"In partnership with the Washington State Department of Health, the Washington State Department of Emergency Management and local and community health partners, we are strengthening our preparedness and response efforts. I am committed to keeping Washingtonians healthy, safe and informed."

Does it bother anyone else when politicians speak like this? Can they never turn it off. It’s not a sad for Washington state! It has a population of 7.5 million. Over a hundred people die in the state a day and no one notices. It’s only remarkable in how it is important to the coronovirus outbreak and what it means.

Anyway that’s honestly my first thought on reading this statement

Generally speaking I rarely have the patience or interest in listening to politicians. It's just assorted words from a practiced vocabulary prepared by a spin doctor.

Better to just listen to the news and hear the relevant quotes and then get annoyed as journalist do their own spin job.

Am I the only one who thinks this image of the virus on the CDC website looks like a cat toy?

Re: The Olympics.

It's much less concerning for the athletes (I mean it would be concerning, and in some cases quite a crappy thing for their careers)...but no one is talking about how this affects the host city of Tokyo. The sheer amount of $$ and infrastructure that's been shoved into this event would be a staggering loss for Tokyo (and possibly Japan as a whole) if it were cancelled. Olympics are EXPENSIVE AF, and the expense is always weighed against tourism dollars....so without that latter quotient it would be disastrous for the people of that city.

I'm not for or against cancelling them...I'm just voicing the thing I am not seeing when it's mentioned, that Tokyo would suffer the worst from a cancellation. A Delay would be better.

Yeah... that definitely sucks. That's an enormous investment to just completely lose.

Obviously human lives are way more important though.

Laseen did nothing wrong.

I feel like every time the media report on numbers of infected or dead they should be obligated to inform the public how many have been infected or died from influenza that week.

Nah. How would the media prompt mass panic hysteria misinformation stupidity clickys if they had to point out that utterly mundane reality of the 'normal' flu killing over 10,000 people already this year just in the US.

I will note however, that what's going on in Iran is kind of nuts.

Deaths in Washington state at nursing home.

Nursing homes are communicable disease factories. If you have loved ones at a nursing home, I would check in with them, and then I would talk to the nursing home director and inquire about how they are prepared for this. Also, please, please, communicate to your friends to go no where near a nursing home if they feel even a tinge of fatigue brought on by the common cold, or feel under the weather.

I heard that screening for this in the USA is $3000 per person/screening.

Meanwhile, in the rest of the fucking SANE world, it's free because WTF is wrong with the United States? There are banana republics that do this better than you.

I mean we have capitalism too, but 3gs/person to help stop a potentially deadly pathogen from rampaging through your elderly and immune compromised population? Yikes.

Yeah, but they're poor, ergo they don't matter.

There's now like 6/7 confirmed in the UK. Stuff all over Europe is starting to be cancelled.
