Kallor is listed as an Ascendent.... interesting.
Caladan Brood is also mentioned as being a man and human at times. Though this one I just put down to whoever said it being wrong or maybe even a retcon.

Ascendant is a pretty vague term anyways.

Ah, I've missed these little Quick Ben moments.

That is one of my favourite scenes in the book!! It is crazy to think that we still do not fully know who QB really is...
I haven't had much time to read lately but I'll be able to put in a shift over this week and next!

Derudan grabbed a handful of the wizard’s cloak. “Wizard! Listen to me!”
Another Warren was driven away. Quick Ben shook his head. “I’m done.”
“Listen! That man—the one over there—what’s he doing?”
Quick Ben looked up. “Hood’s Breath!” he yelled, in sudden terror. A dozen paces away crouched Hedge, only his head and shoulders showing behind a bench. The saboteur’s eyes shone with a manic glaze that the wizard recognized, and a large, bulky arbalest was in his hands, pointed directly at Mammot.
A wordless, wailing scream came from Hedge.
The wizard shouted and dived for the woman a second time. As he flew through the air, he heard the thock of the saboteur’s crossbow. Quick Ben closed his eyes before colliding once again with the woman.

The fact that he was once a High-Priest of shadow is interesting.
I don't really want to know his background or who all his souls are but Delat the man, must have been formidable in his own right one assumes. And somewhat familiar with Kel and Dancer, maybe? At least in their official religious roles? Or was it a rivalry? Quon Tali shadow cults versus 7C? Shit, imagine an Esslemont prequel book where Quick Ben is a character opposing the Malazan invasion of 7C.

I don't think we've seen anything to suggest involvement with Kellanved and Dancer pre Raraku and the Bridgeburners... tho we don't know about all his souls.
There's obviously a lot to QB and since the first two KT books multiple peple have raised the suggestion he's descended from an Azathanii.

I found all those QB quotes super cheesy this time around.
Still good, but very melodramatic!

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I have my own theory on Kallor and ascendency, which I may have posted ages ago when I was reading Kharkanas. It's hinted at a few times regarding some sort of powering up, especially with regards to Draconus' son and daughters. I'd explain it again now nut I'm on holiday and kinda tipsy.
I also note that Brood is referred to in several different ways in this book and throughout the series. Human. Barghast Ascendant. And finally as the Azathani we know and love.
Also, lots of references to Fiddler being a pretty terrible soldier and crappie with a sword in GotM, he seems to be doing pretty well by the end. Fcuks up a Nahruk with a sword if I remember correctly.

Bad with a sword, yes.
Pain in the ass probably. Bad soldier, i don't think so tho i see how it might read that way.

I've been progressing interminably through GotM on this reread due to real life busy-ness (I just played my first D&D session!). On one hand, this languorous pace has allowed me to deeply enjoy each chapter so far (and y'all's reactions/insights to them).
On the other hand, I haven't even gotten out of Pale yet — Paran was just rejuvenated by Oponns' machinations. I need to pick up the pace before I get a sharper in the behind (or, even worse for my reader's ego, people start comparing me to BK!).

Why did Shadowthrone and The Rope so badly want to kill Oponn in GotM? Just because Oponn likes to fuck with everything and that's their job?
Also, I assumed Oponn would be far more involved in the entire story. It took many books before I stopped waiting on something significant

Nobody likes Oponn. Though Caladan Brood seemed oddly disgusted when Crone intimated that Rake wanted to kill them.
I wish they'd been more present during the series as well. The aspect of luck and chaos is a cool foil.

This is one of the (maybe the only?) bits that oddly appears twice. The very same lines come up again in Memories of Ice.

The other big info pointing towards Delat being formerly very involved with Kel/Dancer and the Shadow Priesthood that I can remember is Lostara Yil remembering her time spent as a Shadow Dancer in Bidithal's chapter of the Shadow/Rashan Cult/Religion. Delat and Dancer infiltrated that chapter of the cult and assassinated almost everyone, with Delat having gotten in either by impersonating a High Priest or else by *being* a High Priest of the cult.

It's reported as a piece of history in GotM then actually happens in MoI. I think that's pretty cool considering the whole story is a history of sorts. Beautiful.
