I would presume you have the choice which units die, when units are destroyed players usually choose which units are destroyed/where hits are targeted. There is no mechanism for randomly selecting units to be hit/destroyed.

So then how do you decide whose units die in a system that has two players' units?

In this case: there is only 1 aqua unit and 4 pink units, so 2 pink units have to go. The directive's 3rd unit could be either a pink or an aqua, yes? In other words, it's a tie between pink and aqua. And ties are decided by the speaker, yes?

We found out that the text on the agenda in our files is wrong - each player with units in one of the hexes adjacent to MR has to destroy 3 units. So my infantry on New Albion and 3 of Tapper's units will go boom, if that's how the roll goes....
