No I remember more of the article now. It said that some of continental plates will bounce up too which will mean some coastal cities height above sea level will increase dramatically. So it's all to play for basically.

It's more that it puts carbon back into the ground because the trees break down into peat. They absorb carbon to grow and then don't release it when they die (as opposed to dry forests which tend to burn).

Well, I'd propose to do both. Dry forests may burn but they grow back. And as far as I understand it, they are more efficient carbon scrubbers than the rainforest.

Climate change terrifies me because we're so fucking unprepared. Even now, those in power with the greatest will to change are only slowly moving towards moves to stop or limit it, when increasingly huge portions of the scientific commentary is shouting, directly or indirectly, that mitigation is great okay but what we need to start thinking about RIGHT THE FUCK NOW is what to do when it goes wrong. It feels like we should no longer be putting our priority on mitigating the change itself, as important as it still is to do that, but on mitigating the damage the change will do because otherwise billions of people will die.

Like, the world is going to change. In our lifetimes. Not just a little bit, it's quite likely going to be the biggest civilisational shift since the industrial revolution, and if we don't anticipate it and start reacting in advance, that shift is going to be devastating.

I did a PhD on this technology.

It's a lovely idea, but the laws of thermodynamics leave you battling uphill. It will probably be a small part of whatever solution is come up with but unless the technology massively improves (and someone does some really clever engineering) it is always going to lag behind other forms of renewable and good battery technology. Renewable methane as an energy storage device is a bit more likely.

The best way to slow global warming is not to have kids. People are the single largest fixable part of the solution.

So I propose taxing people for each kid they pop out. Run commercials that having children is the biggest and worst thing you can do to the world. You had 3 kids! Didn’t you even consider the greater environmental impact and utter waste each child will bring.

Counterpoint: The government should limit each family to one kid in advanced countries and try to sterilize people who are willing younger. Mandate only certain people should.

Make it part of pop culture. Global Warming is a menace!! Laws and Taxes fix problems so more of these!!
