Now, don't get me wrong, as a single man with no children, I am all for killing children, especially the noisy ones... But the whole world is addicted to growth. Population growth supports greater production, more tax income, more consumption. As older generations retire, you need more kids to pay for their pension and healthcare.
I heard recently that China is considering dropping the one child policy and jumping straight to a three child policy because the elder burden is getting massive.

Didn't China scrap the one child policy for the two child policy years ago?
If we're going down the sterilisation route I think batshit insane people and climate change deniers should be on the list first

I'm fairly sure mega corporations and oil companies are more of an issue to the earth than people with kids

Love her! She will hopefully be the face of the democratic party for the next thirty years+.
I don't think it is. The government should do something about this and fix it.

I don't think it's any question at all. What's better — a difficult life full of suffering or non-existence?
Is any feeling, even horrible pain, worse than the lack of awareness and being?
I'd choose being born every time. Ask people with major disabilities, and the majority would answer similarly.

That's what it seemed like he wrote. I assumed the "I don't think it is" part of his statement corresponded to "is it still ok to have children" which was followed by "the government should do something about this"
Apologies if I misread but that's what it seemed to me.

On the 'having children' point, population growth is levelling off and the transition to more polluting middle-class (or at least not impoverished) lifestyles is a far more pressing issue than further increases in raw numbers. From an environmental standpoint raw numbers matter relatively little if pollution per person is almost zero -- but when those billions of people really start polluting then that's a massive challenge. It's especially challenging since it largely goes hand in hand with raising those people out of abject poverty, and so it's a huge demand that can't really be denied (indeed, climate treaties generally recognise the precedence of the right to development).

Climate Crisis town hall today with all of the candidates who still matter (and some who don't).
I'll hopefully get to see clips of the most pertinent coverage.

For what it's worth, the gray haired guy is the one among them actually making the salient argument.
The world is not ending, nobody stole her future, I would prefer if the UN took the actual experts seriously, rather than only feigning attention when a social media phenomenon gets angry on stage.

Yes, I'm sure the young lady in question would agree with you wholeheartedly.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Sure... but as a middle aged white man I will reserve my right to shake my fist and mumble "damn kids and their climate shenanigans".
