Okay I need recommendations of food, drinks, restaurants, candy, Broadway shows, Job offers are welcome.

Shows: go to the half-price tickets office in Times Square or i think Union station, go see anything that catches your eye or pick at random. If Blue Man Group or Stomp are around i reco them for a lower cost off Broadway fun show. Avenue Q is great but not everyone's thing. Lion King is glorious.

Try to walk the Brooklyn Bridge and/or take the Staten Island ferry, both around sunset if workable.

It's been 5yrs+ since my last trip so the rest of this may be dated...

Food: Tao. Buddakan. 5th Avenue Deli. Katz' Deli. Blue Smoke.

Drink: McSorley's. Azul. The Kimberley. Pod 39.

I wouldn't walk the Brooklyn Bridge in Oct. Really I wouldn't walk any bridge until it warms up.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

My cousin warned me as a non American I may not get Hamilton? Never heard of this founding father before the show. Maybe it won’t matter. Anyone know if Harry Potter is worth a go?

I’m in New York now for the free accommodation with the cousins until I find a job but looking everywhere.

Will drop you a pm whisperzzz

White Castle is broke, stoner, have the munchies food. I remember a night of doing bong rips at a friend's house in high school when the parents were gone for the weekend. The munchies set in something fierce and we devoured two boxes of White Castle that we found in the freezer. Regret and shame soon settled in after. Not a great feeling when you are still high.

Okay I love this place. Amazon is amazing, shake shack is worthy.

But American table manners. I’m close to committing murder. My cousin in law chews gum with his mouth open, my entire family eat their food with their mouths open. This appears to be a common American problem at least that I have begun to notice and it drives me crazy. The gum especially.

Also people listening to their phones or watching tv at the table next to mine at full volume in fast food joints and worse they comment on the game out loud to themselves. Thank god for noise cancelling.

I’m sad I don’t have a permanent address yet because Black Friday is awesome.

Most American food tastes a bit funny. The chips!,The cookies, the candy but some is amazing, the margherita pizzas are great and I love lifesavers and mike and Ike’s. Dove chocolate is good but crazy expensive. Otherwise your chocolates are bad. Like very bad. Your grape soda is bad! I was so excited to see Fanta grape and immediately regretted it. P F Chang and general tso ready to cook meals are great. Bulk is actually very cheap but individual chocolate bars and candies are crazy expensive.

Monster energy drinks are twice as expensive here as back home despite them being manaufactured here? What’s up with that?

Those table manners are not global. That actually sounds disgusting.

American chocolate should be a war crime.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I’m glad to hear it regarding table manners. Drives me nuts. I have seen the gum thing a lot in general though.

Holy hot pockets. Pepperoni hot pockets, two minutes in the microwave for a delicious pocket of cheese and pepperoni. I’m in love.

I have actually lost 3 kg so far. A two factor problem of so much food does taste bad and I now have to cook for myself.

Time will tell. But that hot pocket could become a staple

Most Americans will strongly disagree with you on this. Their taste buds are severely atrophied. It is wise not to inform them how crap their food tastes.

wait wait, aren't you from England?

But yeah, American food is a weird category. They're great at bbq and such, and the food I got in Louisiana was excellent, but there's so much of their staple foods that to me tastes awful. Like all those fast food/franchise restaurants so many Americans seem to love. I think they're used to so much salt and sugar in their diet they don't experience it like we do. When I lived in Chicago I had to get a bakery to bake bread for me without sugar or cornsyrup or whatever for instance. Who puts sugar in bread?

Not to say there's no amazing restaurants in the US. There is! Lots of them. I had some great food experiences there. However, my personal experience is that there was a higher chance of a terrible meal in the US than other places I've been to.

Hey, Bad Apple was a great burger and the fries were excellent. No complaints there! And that bbq place we went to a few times after you bought the house, that was some good bbq.
