So no one has mentioned it here yet, and since the victim is one of my favourite actors, Brendan Fraser, I thought I'd mention it...even though you've probably all heard.
Fraser has accused Hollywood Foreign Press Association's (the people who put on the Golden Globes) former president Philip Berk of sexual assault. The details are that in 2003 (at some event) Berk fondled Frasers butt and pushed his fingers into the area of his "taint" (Fraser's words). The accusation holds water because Berk apparently responded when INITIALLY contacted about the incident by Fraser's representatives with a letter of apology saying sorry, but that he didn't "view" it the same way as Fraser did. Regardless of intent, even if it was Berk's attempt at a joke, it's how the interaction left Fraser FEELING that caused the upset in the actor. It's why he took tiny roles over the next 5 years, as the incident really just made him feel small, and like he'd done something wrong.
I don't think he's claimed that he was blacklisted or anything as a result as some outlets are saying, but just that it affected him on a deeply personal level and made him disconnect with the world he'd entered.
It's just one more thing in the actors life that caused the last decade or so to be very difficult, including a divorce and alimony battle, his mothers death from cancer (there's an interview of him from his time on THE AFFAIR and he basically looked wrecked, and whispers the interview in a sad voice....and it turned out his mother had JUST died and no one knew), and a few other things (poor career choices and trajectories).
Anyways, glad he called Berk out. Also this would be the reason that Fraser did not attend the Golden Globes between I think 2003 and 2010 (when he did the crazy clap that everyone "memed") as he didn't want to be in the same room with Berk who was president during those years.
The GQ article where all this came out is well worth reading, not just about the incident, but about all the problems that went on that caused him to be out of the limelight in the last while, and touches on his most recent roles that hopefully speak of a resurgence of his career.
