Really enjoyed Eps 1 and 2 of this season so far.

The whole season is quite good. They've changed big segments of the book story to do something else and I think they do a good job of it too.
The characters remain memorable, pull attention and connection to them, and they do interesting things rather than consistently dumb things. The willingness of characters to try and figure out if another is lying or holding back truth, rather than accept everything is really well done this season. I think the acting quality of the show is higher than it was last season and it was already pretty good last season.
The action is terrific. The visual effects are frequently spectacular. The story is often funny, dramatic, and willing to shrug shoulders at stuff that's complex in a way that doesn't seem like handwaving. And above all, it's fun to watch.

Jaskier perks up every episode he's in. I'm kind of amazed by it because it's hard to do a "bro" friendship without skipping a ton of steps or making them too dumb/bro-ey, yet they did it.
It made me look a bit harder at how Ciri and Geralt's relationship developed over time - I think this is the one relationship where the Witcher didn't really develop that super well. Geralt does a lot of ordering around and Ciri some rebelling, then we cut away to something else and then come back to them finishing up something. It took until the orb school to make that relationship fully connect.

Strange ending to this one, almost felt like this series was a big lead up to the next season.
Still in it and very much enjoyed most of this but was left feeling somewhat unsatisfied...

Exactly. I really enjoyed the first 7 or so episodes, then an kinda unsatisfying, rushed finale.
Overall really enjoyed it though.

I think the Witcher books tend to kinda... rush to an unsatisfying end as a whole too. This felt less destined than the first season's end, which we'd been building to the whole time and more like "We're dealing with Season 2's big deals. Here's Season 3's big bads as a hook!"

That kinda sucks, I like Cavill. At least there's one more season with him.
I know I've seen Liam Hemsworth in stuff -- I can even name the stuff -- but I don't remember his presence at all, which seems like a bad thing. I wouldn't say Cavill has loads of charisma per se, but he has presence in a pretty special way that isn't just replicable with any generic brooding buff dude.

Superman job and Cavills creative differences with the writing/directing team probably explain a lot of this... doesn't bode well.

This. Both of these things. As recently as like 2020 Cavill said that he wanted to do 7 seasons of THE WITCHER if the writing was up to snuff. Sounds like he wasn't happy with the trajectory of the show...and coupled with getting Superman back....no brainer.
They should just cancel the show. I don't think Hemsworth has it in him to follow Cavill. He was the most non-entity person in the Hunger Games movies, despite being a main character.

Gotta agree with the Cutie. Liam Hemsworth sadly did not inherit any of the genes that led to his brothers' charisma. Or physical presence (like Cavill).
But hey, I'd be very glad to be proved wrong. I just happen to think that's a remote chance.

I do recall that a friend who loves the books was REALLY unhappy with season 2, so if the writing was an issue and Cavs is a massive Witcher nerd, it would definitely explain it.

writer Beau DeMayo, who’s written a couple episodes of The Witcher and also put together the writer’s room for the upcoming X-Men ’97 show on Disney+.
“My general rule was you HAD to be a fan,” he said during an Instagram Q&A session. “No questions.”
I’ve been on show – namely Witcher – where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games, even actively mocking the source material. It’s a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos, and makes all the long nights worth it. You have to respect the work before you’re allowed to add to its legacy.
This sounds very much like something that would send Cavill packing since we know he's such a fan.
And if Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as showrunner can't reign in those writers, then the show deserves to fail.
