My wife has similar feelings about Yennefer as you do, but the rest of the cast/story wins her over enough to keep her into it. You're not alone, though. She disliked her storyline in like episode 1, and I told her not to expect to like Yennefer as Yennefer is never exactly "likeable".

I feel like Geralt is taking crazy pills, but then maybe that's the point? I dunno.

She's also so selfish, it's hard to imagine her ever being a loving and nurturing mother.

Even when she eventually meets Ciri in the main books (a defacto mother/daughter relationship) she's like "You don't like me do you?" and Ciri is like "Nope." Haha.

I don't know that I could stomach listening to Sapkowski actually wax poetic on women in general, as I feel his POV would be...skewed and from another generation.

There's a doozy of a section in The Last Wish where he has Geralt internal monologuing picking her appearance apart, and then follows this up with a bit of a description about the enchantment process for sorceresses (I get it, they need to function at court etc.) but it devolves into "in fact all it creates is pseudo-pretty women with the angry, bitter eyes of ugly girls" and how they can never forget they're ugly really. It's the closest I've ever come to throwing a book across a room.

The show does it a bit better, and I think I was a little coloured going into it straight from reading that - although it irritated me that they have the rectoress the beginnings of a great bit of dialogue - about how everyone looks in the mirror and sees flaws - but then swiftly doubles back down into "lol you're a victim because you were ugly before".

The whole book opens with the framing narrative where Geralt is with some young nubile girl and Sapkowski takes the time to describe her breasts and nipples like buds of flowers...I mean...talk about male-gaze. I nearly put it down there.

For reference, I stopped the books around TIME OF CONTEMPT as I could not take any more. The show, I like tho.

Just finished watching this, and have to say I enjoyed that. I can accept the changes they made from the books. Reading through the comments above I sympathise with the view that it's not slavic enough in tone.

I didnt like the change to Sodden that they made much. Nilfgaards armour is silly as is some of their characterisation of them as Zealots. Hopefully that will prove a hollow bit of propaganda as we get stuck into the machinations of Nilfgaard.

Acting was pretty good and I felt most of the characters.

Now the timelines are synched and the scene is set I'm hopeful that season 2 will be even better!

Ha! The main character's (Vesemir) voice is provided by the guy who did the voice of Hector in Castlevania (Theo James). And did the voice of Young Vesemir in Witcher Season 1.

Just watched The Nightmare of the Wolf during the weekend. Very grim, but liked it a lot. I still haven't read the books though so might be it sucks ass to someone who has.

Would've liked to see more of something where a big group of Witcher battle or do stuff together, since that's always rare.

Yeah the hair colour isn't a Witcher thing. I think Geralt just naturally had white hair or it was caused by the mutations. Vesemir was just old and hence had gray hair.

In the video game (The Witcher 3) the white hair is explained by Trial of Grasses. That training that only 1 out of 10 (or is it 3 out of 10) survive.

CD Projekt Red and a Japanese illustrator, Hataya, are releasing a hardcover manga book about Ronin Geralt's adventures in Japan. There will also be a retail-version for sale later, but then you'll be missing 55 pages worth of extra content.
