Just finished cauldron rho. 41% damage coil, whee!

Want!

I'm over 24 hours without playing and that's bad enough as I'd just made it to Meridian and picked up a bunch of quests.

I can't make up my mind whether to go for Tinker or Ammo Crafter next. They'd both be handy.

I went for tinker as I already had stuff to transfer. With three slots on the newer weapons I've re-used the high damage and fire coils I put on the earliest ones.

Also you can change them accordingly to match what you're fighting.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Tinkerer! Saving the best modifications for reuse is great. Or even being able to put better ones in.

Ammo crafter gives you a 20 percent ammo bonus on crafting. 10 arrows becomes 12. 5 becomes 6. It's not worth it. You should be drowning in components

Yeah, makes sense. I'm always short of the stuff needed for Tearblast arrows. Need to go and farm some.

Tearblast are some of the rarest and most usefull components.

Longlegs are good for farming them, Thunderjaw and stalker I think as well. By the end of the gave let me say that I had over 5k shards and over 200 echo chamber components. Eventually you cant get rid of them fast enough.

Otherwise gain entry to the hunters lodge. 3 full suns required. Eventually you will acquire a tearblaster weapon that uses less echo components for ammo

Ah, I have the three full suns. I was on my way to Meridian but I got sidetracked and am now sonewhere up north with a longneck inside a bandit camp.

I did manage to rip some echo chambers from a Thunderjaw.

Cheers, yeah, I use the Tearblast against Thunderjaws and Ravagers, mostly, but I've found the echo things hard to come by. I have just got some, though.

I did go and join the Hunter's Lodge when I got to Meridian but haven't gone any further with that as yet.

Spoiler

I just played a bit and bought the Heavy Banuk Ice Hunter armour for going up against groups of Snapmaws and Glinthawks. Still got over 3k in shards at the moment - it's burning a hole in Aloy's pocket.

Once you buy the heavy outfits against melee, fire, ice, spark and arrows and add some modifications your golden. I strongly advise you buying them all. The right outfit against the right foe and you can tank punishment like a boss. If you get the games secret armour, death becomes impossible,

Yeah, I was thinking of doing exactly that, especially after using the Ice Hunter just now against a group of Snapmaws and hardly taking a scratch (must confess, it was the first time I've waded in against Snapmaws - usually I've attacked them from a height advantage).

The outfit and weapon system is good - rather than having a graded set that get steadily harder to acquire, they are all reasonably easy to get. And once you have them they become other tools like the weapons - bit like the use of Rings in DS.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

In Meridian now.

Damn but the locations are consistantly beautiful.

That's ok, the last bandit base I hit
Spoiler

Although the bandits really are a bit too easy. I cleared a whole fort by crouching on a wall in a good spot and sniping - I didn't have to move!

So I hit 30 hours play time last night. Speaking to a mate on Saturday, he'd already gone past 70 hours. I'm such a slacker :cat:

See, by that point the internet will have so much more information in a more easily searchable manner that it kind of becomes redundant. Hell, it's probably already close to that, but in another month it's almost a certainty. Publisher needs to get their shit together and release within a week of launch (or ideally at launch) if they don't want the wiki hive mind to beat them to it. XD

Yeah, they've missed the boat for sure. They've put the price up from £19 to £25, too.

It's funny, the "Go to Meridian" main quest keeps getting sidelined as I do different side quests and errands for people...this game is so fun I don't even notice how off track I currently am.

Oh, and took down a Sawtooth sans any traps...just stood on a ridge and ran around it deaking it out and firing and eventually dropped the fucker. Noice!

Dear God man what are you doing! I played 5o hours of Horizon and loved it but in that time I did every tall neck, bandit camp, side mission, errand, main mission, bought every weapon and outfit.

Didn't collect every metal flower or vessel I must admit but.

Stopping to sniff the metal flowers?!

I'm certainly not rushing it - I'm enjoying it too much.

I'm now south of Meridian, in what closely resembles tropical rainforest. The bird sounds are spot on.

Just as a non spoilerish tip, head for the Hunters Lodge at Meridian before taking down too many random Ravagers and Sawtooths as they are part of a quest - you might as well get the rewards while you do it.

Last night I brought down the required number in about 30mins. Took on and beat two sawtooths at the same time, and two ravagers and a number of shellbacks who were in the way. Fun fight, I only realised towards the end that I'd knocked the guns off the ravagers, which I picked up and used to mop up the shellbacks.

Really difficult to stop playing once I'm on there.

Same here. 50 hours won't be enough for me the way I'm feeling at the moment - it's way too much fun, even doing things which normally bore me to tears, like hunting wildlife. In fact, I've yet to find anything about it that I dislike or find even a little irritating. Really didn't expect it to rival Witcher 3 in my affections but it is (much as I love it, there's plenty in Witcher 3 I find irritating). Of course, I'll probably change my mind when I head back for Blood & Wine.

Didn't get to do much last night apart from clear the north east corner of the map of collectibles and the bandit camp that's up there. Then I went hunting Shell Walkers for one of their hearts which I needed to get armour (I now have the Heavy versions of the Ice Hunter, Protector and Sparkworker armours), then headed back to Meridian and northwards from there where I've got three or four quests to do.
