In fact, I've yet to find anything about it that I dislike or find even a little irritating.

Me too. This is unusual for me. I found the W3 upgrades and buildings interior/camera controls irritating. I got tired of Far Cry and Assassins Creed as the landscapes were basically cut and paste camps.

In Horizon though, the interiors featured (most buildings are inaccessable, ruling out pointless searches) like the cauldron are big enough to manage 3rd person effectively. The environment and hunting experience are closest to Red Dead Redemption, and maybe Dark Souls for the bigger machine combat. I like the music, the exploration, and the sidequests and objectives are engaging.

There's nothing not to like. If I could improve anything it would be the human AI-I've approached each bandit camp expecting to have trouble but have cleared them with reltive ease. But I suppose it is still better (more real) that you can headshot a human with an arrow at later levels, than just making them almost impervious (again like Far Cry which just made everything into bullet sponges)

Keep saying it, but I'm constantly blown away by the detail. I want to see how they made this game. It's seriously set the bar way up for any games that follow.

Yeah, it didn't resort to fetch quests much, but having to find all the plans for the various weapon/armour upgrades, and then find all the right components to make them, got old fast.

Another one is Aloy's movement. It's just a joy. She's so agile, stops and turns on a sixpence, balances on ropes and logs, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of the rappelling - contrasted with Geralt's lumbering around, taking about five minutes to come to a halt, messing around positioning him so he can pick something up, bless him :cat:

^^This 100%. I was mentioning to my wife as I played how entirely fluid and yet arguably PERFECT her movements are. And once you start being able to really play with what she can do (slides and dodges ect.) in clever ways, you become even MORE agile. It's simply incredible.

This is the game of the year for me so far. EASILY.

Running from a sawtooth, with very little health - it was also on it's last legs.

Managed to spin, and as it pounced in slow motion, put two arrows into it, finishing it mid-air. It's all so profoundly satisfying!
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah, being able to aim in slo-mo whilst jumping and sliding is quite a thrill. I haven't quite plucked up the courage to try the move shown in some of the trailers yet - i.e. sliding under a Thunderjaw whilst aiming and shooting - but it's on the to-do list!

Human on human combat is the games only weakness. I can imagine big improvements for the sequel. Stealth needs improvement and combat needs more abilities. Partying attacks in melee maybe.

Ps serum are awesome. Can't wait to visit their lands in the sequel. Have to say the game does a good job of throwing out a few tidbits which basically just say there is more out there. Banuk lands. Cannibal lands. Utaru lands etc

So finally got some more play time in today, after basically 4 days without being able to play - it would have killed me, but I spent most of the weekend at various parties of some kind with my brother who was down visiting, so I didn't really think about it till yesterday when I was unable to play for less fun reasons!

Hit about 28 hours playtime, though it's probably less time than that actually playing, left it running paused a few times. Now Approaching the Daytower - just a nearby Bandit Camp to deal with first. All other Bandit Camps, Hunting Trials, Corruption Zones, Cauldrons, Vessels, Vantages, Flowers and Figurines east of the Daytower I already have, including those in the northeastern part of the map. Something like 33% completion so far.

This game is genuinely incredible, I'm still not 100% sure I'd place it above The Witcher after playing all the Witcher DLC - Blood & Wine was almost like a game in and of itself - but damn if it isn't a helluva lot closer than I ever expected it to be - after all I consider The Witcher 3 to be quite possibly a top 5 game all-time for me. I will definitely agree with all of you about Aloy's movement though, it blow's slow, lumbering Geralt's out of the water, like it isn't even close! I actually don't like that most buildings are inaccessible though, I know this game shines with the graphical excellence of it's outside environments, but I actually like exploring random houses/buildings even if it makes no sense that people always let you in - like seriously lol - and most have nothing worthwhile inside.

Still using my Heavy Survivor with melee mods for the time being, as I've been unable to get any Bellowback or Shell-Walker hearts just yet. Got like 3500 shards at the moment though, thinking about save/loading for some of the random Very Rare mods the Merchants sell. Found a few Snapmaws and Ravagers, haven't engaged any just yet though. Glinthawks are so freakin' annoying!

I also agree with everyone saying that the combat against human's opponents is far and away the game's poorest mechanic. It's really quite unsatisfying to just walk through a bandit camp with so-called elite enemies and one-shot every enemy with headshots from one or two hiding places.

Some of the hunter time trials are crazy. I've been trying to bring down a Thunderjaw using two controlled ravagers. I got a sun for it but I just can't ger it done in under 2.40. Might need to come back when I've got more firepower.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

So I have some mental trials in my future then, nice to know :cat:

Oh How exactly do you get one machine to attack another when it's overridden? I can attack from 'horseback' so to speak, but if it's an enemy you cannot mount I can't even get it to follow me, Sawtooth I used the override on just mill around in the same area doing nothing till the override wears off.

Override a machine near others you want it to attack - then when you start fighting or shooting, the overridden one will come over and join in on your side. The challenge is hard because you have to first override two ravagers, which are on opposite sides of the arena holding the Thunderjaw, on open ground. THEN kill the Thunderjaw. In under 2.5 minutes!

I've spent 3 skill points to get the override+ which helped keep the ravagers for longer, but I need to find a quicker way to finish off the Thunderjaw.

Ah thank you, that explains it then, whenever I've done it there was only one Sawtooth around lol

Still haven't seen a Thunderjaw just yet, appropriately terrified of this encounter when it first happens.

Oh btw, did you ever solve your issue about not being able to get back into All-Mother Temple? I'm having the same issue and unfortunately I missed the power cell inside the temple.

Why oh why did it ever take me this long to get the lure call skill, seriously makes stealth attacking whole herds so easy :cat:

EDIT: Found my first Thunderjaw site as well, left it alone for now.

EDIT 2: Holy freakin' hell, just found and killed something called a Stormbird! Tough fight, used nearly all my herb pouch from full. Think I should probably just go Meridian at this point, am level 28 now. So hard to stop searching the map for collectibles though lol

Ice is the key. once you mind control the ravagers, use ice sling bombs to put the thunderjaw in a frozen state so it takes I think triple damage.

Enter mothers heart and go up to the locked gate, leave the village and go left. Walk along the mountain for a minute or so, than walk back. The gates should open. Its a wierd glitch.

Didn't work for me. I got on a machine, took it left of the gate (right while facing it) and rode it up the slope that you can't walk up. Rode it as far as I could along the ridge, then dropped down right by temple door which was open.

I'll have to try ice on the Thunderjaw, I haven't used the sling in ages. I was knocking off the plate on his side and double shotting his heart.

I think these are level 30 trials, I'm about 26.

Neither have I - I've barely used it at all. I'm the same with the Ropecaster, which I used in anger for the first time last night, tying down one Corrupter whilst fighting another. I was pleased with how well it worked.

So I ran into the first "hunter trials" and I'm getting repeatedly slaughtered.

There are three longhorns, and by standing in a spot they can’t get at me and taunting them I can take at least one down…but the minute I take one down the condor thingies come and harvest the thing…and usually see me in the process and take me out in short order.

How do you kill three longhorns, and three condor thingies without getting shellacked?

It's useful when you get caught out by small machines and one or more larger one - you can ropecast the smaller ones, then concentrate on the big ones without getting knocked over by a random angry watcher while lining up a shot.

They seem to stay down for ages if they don't take any damage.

I gave up on the sling when I saw the range, it seems impossible to target machines at anything of a distance.

That's certainly what happened with the Corrupter. I was able to kill the second one and return my attention to the first and it was still tied down. It made that fight a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Now I've got the Shadow Ropecaster I have to try it on a Thunderjaw. I just have to. :cat:
