Geez Grim, than is longer than my flight from Sydney to London! You can always catch a train from London with me.. best way to meet a new person right?
The ticket prices don't seem too bad to me, but that might be because transport isn't particularly cheap in Australia.

The trains are usually fine. For the best experience travel at an off-peak time, book a specific train in advance, reserve a seat and check online for delays before you set out for the station. London to Manchester is a decent service.

12 February you say? Have inserted into the new fangled electronic calendar so that will be the last I see of that. As a seasoned veteran of the North West route there are some ways to legally reduce the cost of rail travel if one is not Richard Branson or employed on the railway.
The first will be to bag a seat in the next Virgin seat sale - I get the marketing emails from Virgin so can post when it is coming up. Assuming it does.
The next way is boring and tedious but cheap. London Midland has a direct train from Euston to Crewe - it takes about 1 hour longer than Virgin so maybe 2 1/2 hours but single tickets can be bagged from £10. Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly is a regular service - the cheapest single fare I have seen is £3 for an advance single ticket - will take you through the delightful conurbation of Wilmslow and Stockport - look out for the footballers wives.
Try not to use the train on a Sunday - engineering works mean they tend to run everything in slow motion.
Simeon - assume that you will be in charge of the venues or is that one for IH? Would be great if Dag Stone Monkey and even better if we get some Manc ex pats and maybe mini Mez?) Macros could always send another cardboard cut out. Overdue a catchup with Morgoth too - have not seen you since you became a respectable lawyer.

Ran into simeon last night and discussed this. Think we will probably be able to get brood and stonemonkey out as a minimum. I have suddenly become a maybe as my company has suddenly decided I can probably do my job better in America so I may not be here in February anymore.

I am so excited! All my major flights and accommodation are booked in, so all the big money spent except for the crappy exchange rate.

I have recently discovered the app revolut which allows currency exchange at the bank rate for free. It's basically a no brainer for moving money between countries and holiday spending.

It's 11th Feb isn't it? I've put it in my calendar but I doubt I'll make it. I'll see closer to the time if it will tie in with a trip up to see my mum.
Centz - where did you decide to add to your itinerary in the end?

IH - that App looks great, but isn't available to Australians yet
I've gone with Iceland for my little side trip, just sorting out the details... are there any airlines to absolutely avoid when flying out of London? I am happy to spend a bit more to avoid bad airlines!!

Normally, nudity is the standard for Malazan meet ups. I shall certainly not be wearing clothes.
