Total War: Warhammer Im starting to be excited

I just don't understand that level of fanboyism I guess. And that's saying something considering how long I've been an active member of a forum dedicated to a fantasy author.


It's not a level of fanboyism I usually indulge in either. I mean, I LOVE Malazan, but I have yet to read some of ICE's books, don't even have all of them yet.

But Warhammer is different for me. It's pretty much responsible for my introduction into the world of fantasy. Does this mean that I read everything warhammer? HELL NO! Some of those books are outright horrible.

But what can I say? I just like warhammer.


Warhammer was my introduction too. It led me on to Tolkien, Eddings and the rest is history. I had a massive High Elf Army (since donated except for some choice pieces to my little brother) and dedicated an unreasonable amount of time to painting the lot.

And I am very excited about being able to play a warhammer game again, that might even be good. But I'm not going to pay for something that very well might turn out to be terrible, and I certainly do not wish to support the sort of business practices shown by the Total War people. A day 1 Chaos DLC? Fuck that. I'm not supporting those people.


I'm frustrated by the day 1 DLC too, and their excuse for it is just outright pathetic and insulting.

But this is also about admitting something about myself. This is Warhammer and I might not be strong enough to wait until it drops in price. And what I most definitely won't do is buy it after release and then pay more for the chaos faction. So I reckon I'll just preorder it.

did they not to a day 1 DLC for rome 2 as well (although I think it might have been free)

No, I believe you had to pay for the greek city states unless you pre-ordered. So, much the same.

I can wait to win the euro millions and set up a few companies who's pricing and marketing policies aren't based on gouging their customer base to the max.

Well, that'd be like pre-ordering ESO because I'm a pretty big Elder Scrolls fan. More of raping my hopes and dreams and less of fanboy wonder.

MASSIVE Warhammer fan (still pissed about End Times. Never mind what's been done since......)

BUT.....

Yeah, gonna wait for a "game of the year" edition type thing, with all the extras and bugs fixed.

The CA Total Warhammer youtube channel has loads of good stuff. Most recent is an Empire v Chaos battle. The dev playing Empire gets crushed.

I'm still gonna wait for the game of year edition. Chaos Dlc is still a giant slap in the face. Still it looks good. Graphically amazing, the feel looks great. The Giants and flying creatures etc are all there.

I do worry about magic though. Will be beyond frustrating to have my most expensive unit, which is perhaps gold elite get fried by a fire spell. Nothing you can do to stop it.

I think there were rumours of a mod at one point for either Medieval II or Rome.

In a move both responding to criticism and displaying confidence, CA now announced that the Chaos Warriors will be playable for free not just for pre-orders, but for all week 1 purchases.

Basically, if people wait for the reviews but then still buy week 1, they get to play as chaos.

That is very true, and had it been any other kind of Total War game, I would not have pre-ordered it. But it is Warhammer and I love Warhammer.

But this new deal is a great idea which I think should serve to at least soothe some raw nerves here and there.

Well unless Chaos becomes part of the base lineup, I'm not buying this game. Maybe on something like an anniversary edition that will give -33 or -50 % on the game plus DLC. I'm not prepared to trust CA like this anymore.

It's a week 1+ pre-purchase full unlock of the faction on launch (also fully playable), if you're any later than that, it becomes DLC. That's how base line-up it is, and I doubt it will become more than that.
