except, you know, MMO
I'm yet to watch Ubi conference, but so far the only new IP that appears interesting is Tacoma, and even then it's because of the System Shock vibes.
MIRROR'S EDGE IS A FIRST PERSON GAME WITH NO GUNS!!!!!ELEVEN!!!!!11111
Ahem. So yeah. Still has a chance to go terribly wrong, but my curiosity is throughly peaked for that one. Gonna watch Ubi's soon.

And I want to state that Ment has out-weaseled me by far in this game.
I'm about halfway through the Sony show, definitely overall the most interesting games-wise so far for me.
- The Last Guardian, looks awesome, BirdDog looks incredible, but a slightly weird contrast between him and the cartoony child. Pity about the '2016' date, I was hoping for something more fixed than that.
- Apart from SHENMUE!!! the game which excites me the most so far is Horizon from Guerilla Games, looks like a story I would love to explore.
- No Man's Sky, that was a rushed and disappointing showing. I hope it's just one of those games that just has to be experienced to actually know what it's like.

"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."
Went into a E3 media black out and am going to watch all the conferences in one go. Going to edit this post with my impressions.
The Microsoft Conference
Spoiler
Halo Guardians looks okay. I think the campaign gameplay looked a bit slow and clunky, that running sequence looked like a turtle running. However I love the story and that multiplayer mode looks like utter chaos. I like that more games are taking a page out of Titan Falls book and mixing mobs into multiplayer.
Re-Core looks interesting. Mainly because of the name dropping since there was no actual gameplay.. Inafune + Makes of Metroid Prime should make for a creative and well designed gameplay.
Backwards compatibility is pretty huge. It basically just expanded the X-box Ones catalog many fold.
That Fallout 4 trailer was great. It gave a better impression of the combat and the view of the city was promising. I like that the power armor now looks and feels more like a big clunky suit, instead of just being another piece of clothing in Fallout 3.
Pretty interesting that mods will be available for X-box One. I wonder how that works?
Garden Warfare 2 looked interesting but none of that looked to be gameplay. Meh.
Forza 6 is Forza 6. I've never really managed to get into the more simulation heavy campaign racers. One day I will.
First showing of Dark Souls3? That seems like a scoop for Microsoft. I wonder if it was that or if they've thrown some money at From Software to get an edge on Sony.
Surprised that they are showing the Division again again. It keeps getting pushed. I guess they just want to keep the name alive in the public and a shooter in your conference looks good.
God damn thick French accents are funny. I sort of wanted the Ubisoft rep to smoke a cigarette off-handedly between each declaration.
Gigantic looks fascinating and colorful. However it also looks like yet another character based Moba/Team shooter type fair. There are so god damn many of these things. I wonder if it can manage to stand out.
Lots of indies. That's always great.
Interesting to see Fullbright has a new game. I have tendency to to mix up Fullbright and Camposanto because of Idles Thumbs. Looks like Tacoma is a game that helps the hearing impaired
Cuphead looks fantastic. I wonder if it is just short stages or a story driven ”campaign”?
Ion is... I have no idea. Are they making Day Z in space?
Tomb Raider is probably my favorite unveiling at this show. I really liked the reboot. Those action sequences were really well made. Good to see they are still beating the shit out of Laura Croft.
The Rare Replay collection seems crazy. Super great value for a nostalgia collection. The question is of course how many of those games are actually tolerable today, unless you knew it from your childhood.
Sea of Thieves looks underwhelming. However if it can offer better sea exploration that Black Flag it might have a chance.
I don't know about Fable Legends. They showed it last E3 as well. I don't want a Free to Play Multiplayer Fable. I want a bigger better Fable 4.
Surprised to hear about the partnership with Valve VR. I think it's brilliant. They see all the competition going on and have decided to watch from the sideline while ensuring their brands can be integrated into the new platforms.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHAT EVEN IS HOLO-LENS?! This is Minority Report?! I neeeeed this. I don't know for what but god damn this is cool.
Gears of War 4 looked forgettable. Still the same clunky movement. The characters were uninteresting. Don't know if it is my screen but that demo was way too dark. Could hardly see anything.
EA conference
Spoiler
Mass Effect Andromeda looked fantastic, I wonder if all of that is in engine because if it is, holy shit. I love that it's a blank slate. The story can go anywhere.
Most importantly it says Holiday 2015. This, versus Microsoft, vs. Fallout 4 holy shit I need to start selling some furniture.
Need for Speed looks fantastic. The last year I have slowly been getting into racing games and I have especially enjoyed the Need for Speed games, so this is exciting. Looks like it's focused on the Most Wanted series, which is cool. I liked the last one. Especially the cheesy FMV.
Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire. Shit. I aaaalmost want to dig up the old disc for this game. I really liked the story in Old Republic but I just cannot give a shit about the MMO gameplay. And yet, I still have this urge to go back and do a playthrough on the Republic side this time with a Jedi. And it is also coming out this fall.
Looks like they have targeted the buzz surrounding the release of the Star Wars movie.
Unravel looks sweet. Funny to see such a small game get that much love from EA. I suspect that EA is taking a page out of Ubisofts playbook and creating smaller games that appeal to a different demographic.
I really don't know what I think of Garden Warfare 2. They look unique and quirky but ehhhh. I think I might be more invested if they were true single player games.
Sports games, mobile games, a painful interview with pele, more sport. Yawn,
Ooohhh Mirrors Edge. This actually looks bigger and better than I expected. The fact that the game seemingly exists in a big open city sounds tantalizing.
More sports? Really?
And then Battlefront. I don't know if it was just the environment but this did not look particularly good, visually impressive or even fun. Sort of disappointing end to the show.
Why not more Mass Effect?!
Ubisoft Conference
Spoiler
A new fucking South Park game? Hell fucking yes what a great opening. I think the teaser was a bit all over the place but if Parker and Stone are on board I know this game will deliver. I just hope they didn't go so over board in the last one that they can't top it in this one.
I have no idea what For Honor is supposed to be about. That trailer didn't really make much sense. However the live gameplay demonstration looks like a mix between Chivalry and Dynasty Warriors. I don't know why but for some reason the setting and the warrior types makes me want a Higherlander game.
The crew doesn't need more content it needs better handling and level progression that actually has meaning. The Trials Fusion expansion does look crazy though.
Nice to hear a release date for The Division. I think it looks really cool, how ever the group focus does make me hesitate. I don't play these kinds of games with friends so unless they have some good LFG systems it might not be for me.
Never played any of the Anno games, but that cinematics for Anno 2277 certainly looked interesting. For a few bittersweet seconds I thought it was a Red Faction game.
Just Dance is a weird game and dance/song performances in the middle of a presentation is even weirder.
I remember playing the original Rainbow Six game many years ago, but I've never been into tactical shooters. I think the closed stage + destructible environment makes it look great, I just don't know if it is for me. I thought that Rain Bow Six Patriot concept the unveiled some years ago was more promising.
Trackmania looks cool. Never played any of the earlier ones but maybe it's time.
As always Assassins Creed looks amazing and as always the story is so stupid I feel insulted just watching the trailer. Why do they keep doing this? Why would a secret order of assassins bother with the running of a fucking street gang? Why would they spread their names and faces for everyone to see? Urh!
Strangely the showing of Assassins Creed also looked sort of pro-forma. As though they new it was less popular now so they shouln't be gushing all over it.
Ghost Recon looks phenomenal. It looks like even as they have been making The Division, they have been taking the concept and combining it with the open world of The Crew. This is definitely the game that looked most impressive... if they can pull it off. I hope I can play it single player like Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Sony Conference
Spoiler
LAST GUARDIAN HOLY FUCKING SHIT IS THE SKY FALLING!?!?
What an insane way to start the conference. I have to say though by now it is more a cute concept and less a case of the graphical showcase that it looked like when it emerged in 2009ish. I also suspect I will grow very tired of that kids shouting.
This guerilla game looks fascinating. When I first heard the name Horizon I just thought it was another Killzone game but this is much better. I know that there are people that tire of Openworld games but I love how ever more impressive open world games continue to emerge. This game just looks downright incredible. Like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs but sort of in reverse.
Didn't expect to see Hitman show up. It was my impression they were still some years away. But the lack of release date or gameplay footage suggests it might be late 2016 or something.
Cool to see Streetfighter. I am surprised they haven't toned down the size of the characters a bit but it is a pretty unique aesthetic.
Great to see a bit more No Man's Sky gameplay. I am still not sure about this game. Looking at the shooting for example, it looks very bare bones. Then again combat isn't the focus.
I have no idea what that media molecule game was about. Is it even a game?
Firewatch continues to fascinate me. It seems extremely story driven, leaning upon the interaction between the character and the disembodied female voice.
Destiny as always looks sort of cool but it's such a hollow game with incredibly overpriced content.
More Assassin's Creed that didn't really tell us anything.
What the fuck Final Fantasy 7 Remake?! First Last Guardian? Now FF7? What's next? Crash Bandicoot? Syphon Filter? My mind is reeling. I am most curious how they will handle the artwork, especially the backgrounds. Those backgrounds looked fantastic back on the PS1. Can they recreate that today?
I have no idea what the hell Shenmue is.
That Batman Arkham Knight footage was strange. It was first person. And had little to do with the actual game but I guess it is setting the stage.
Even as my interest in COD multiplayer diminishes, my interest in the singleplayer grows. It looks fun. I do find it funny that COD and Sony have a partnership now though. Sony is the bigger platform so Activision wants to play with them, but the sun is setting on CODs brand at this point. Then again, I realize it's just as much about the prestige as anything.
The fact that I have seen so much of John Vignotti on Giant Bomb, especially in company with Jeff Gerstmann, means I enjoyed that Disney Infinity segment about ten times more than I should have. You can just tell that guy has a blast doing PR.
For some reason, yet again the Battlefront stuff just doesn't appeal to me that much. Remove the Star Wars aesthetics and... ehh. I don't know. Maybe I'm just not as big of a Star Wars fan as I think.
For a second there I thought they weren't going to show off Uncharted. As always this series looks awesome. I think the combat has really improved over the years, I love how everything moves and the combat improvises with the change of scenery. Naughty Dog knows how to make a good chase sequence.
No God of War this time then. Shame. It would have been the cherry on top.
Just to sum up my impressions before Square and The PC Gamer conference later.
I think that the best conference so far was Bethesda's (which I didn't write anything down on as I watched it on the morning commute yesterday).
I think if I should make a list of the best games shown off so far this year Fallout 4, Doom and Dishonored would be at the top. With very little else to show, that made Bethesdas conference by far the meatiest of the shows this year.
I was actually more excited for Dishonored and Doom than Fallout 4. They both look so ridiculously good. Doom especially looked like a game made for the purpose of fun gameplay and not storytelling. Despite the criticism that has been mentioned, I don't think it's slow. The multiplayer footage shown suggests you can move hella fast. What I am more worried about was that there weren't THAT many enemies on the screen at one time. I want to face off against whole rooms of mobs, not just a small handful.
Anyway besides the Bethesdas awesome Trio I think
Halo Guardians, Tomb Raider 2 and Cuphead was the most interesting games Microsoft showed. What was more interesting was Backwards compatibility, The Rare Collection and that crazy Holo lense presentation. Seriously did you see that shit we are INSIDE THE FUTURE!
EAs best stuff was definitely Mass Effect Andromeda but I also think Mirrors Edge and Need for Speed looked great. Not feeling any love for Battlefront.
Ubisoft blew me away with South Park 2 and Ghost Recon Crazy Huge world edition.
Not sold on The Last Guardian for Sony but I am close to stating that Horizon might be my Game of Show. You are hunting robot dinosaurs! That said the FF7 reveal was fucking INSANE!IN FUCKING SANE! Now watch as Square fucks it up by injecting Japanese bullshit into the game.
I think that it is a toss up between Horizon and Doom for my favorite showing this E3 so far.
But we still have Square and the PC Gamer conferences. Crazy shit could come out of the PC Gamer one we never expected and we KNOW that Square has Deus Ex, Hitman, Tomb Raider, Just Cause 3, Final Fantasy for days and who knows what else.
I wonder why haven't seen more Mad Max at any of the conferences, maybe it shows up in the PC Gamer one?

The Arkham Knight stuff from Sony was showing their exclusive Scarecrow-based missions.
And if you don't know what Shenmue is then you never owned a Dreamcast Open worlds, living cities, decisions/choices affecting the game, mini-games within the game (from pool to forklift racing to Space Harrier and Outrun), and yes, QTEs, they were all revolutionised by Shenmue.
"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."
Not much to come after in that Nintendo conference unless you are already really into Nintendos portfolio. Starfox and Yoshi's Woolly World are probably the only games that really interested me.
Squares conference starts now. I actually suspect this one could rival Bethesda.

Starfox, for a game aping its originals polygonal art....looks slick as hell though. Also, any game where I can transform into useful things at will, and one of those things flies...I'm in.
Yoshi's Wooly World should tide my wife and I over (for duet gaming) till the next Mario drops.

lol at the whoopsie in the Uncharted showing when the character wouldn't move the first time round.
Live demo. I actually appreciate that kind of stuff because it demonstrates that they are playing the game and while it's a polished vertical slice it still seems "realler".

Also Black Ops 3 totally stole, sorry, iterated, unashamedly from Titanfall.
I was actually thinking the same. It's like a more ground based Titanfall. That's not a bad thing mind you.
Interesting that Sony hardly talked about Project Morpheus at all. I think most people were expecting them to do an extended bit on it. I guess it's just hard to show without letting people experience it for themselves. As far as virtual reality-type things being shown at the conferences go, Microsoft's Hololens completely runs away with it.

"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."
I suspect that it is either because the technology is still on the drawing board or because they are pushing it to Gamescom where there will be better room for it?

They said it's coming out 2016 so must be well past the drawing board. I guess yeah, maybe Gamescom. But they've also got it on the showfloor for people to try apparently.

"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."
No shit.. I hate not seeing faces barring tattoo up Sith and they are usually females. The trailer is awesome otherwise. I'm wondering what time period it's supposed to be and if it's cannon?
As far as I know, EVERYTHING Star Wars is now canon.

I haven't played a Starfox game since the first one on the Super Nintendo. However this does look cool. Not very impressive graphically but Nintendo usually excells at gameplay. I like the transforming mechanic.
Zelda: Tri-force heroes and Hyrule Warriors look interesting but very much like handheld games.
I wanted to see more about that Metroid Prime game.
Fire Emblem looked very Japanese. I am sure that is a good thing.
Oookay Xenoblade Chronicles looked pretty cool. Under the layers of bullshit Monster Hunter mechanics or what ever it was they were displaying there.
Animal Crossing: Home simulator looks terrible but then again I have never really understood the appeal of those games.
Youshi's Woolly World. Now here's a game I would actually want to play.
Then more Japaneseness.
You know as a person who hasn't been into Nintendo for years, I can't help but wonder why there's such a difference between their launches for Wii U and 3DS. I get that 3DS actually has large userbase and it's their bread and butter but if they released half the titles for 3DS on the Wii U instead, then surely people would have more of a reason to buy the damn console.
I can't say I get Mario Maker. It's an interesting sort of programming/designing sandbox but it looks like ass and the environment you're playing in is ancient. Outside nostalgia I don't see the appeal.
So the conference is over and I am sitting here thinking where are the actual titles?
Where is Zelda U? (Well, it's delayed I know, but) Where is Mario U? Metroid U? Etc. They have no third party support for the console so why on earth haven't they made an actual console seller yet?! I don't know if it's because they lack a great concept or an idea man or if they are just waiting for the Nintendo NX but boy there isn't a lot to come for unless you are really into Japanese games.
Square Conference:
Spoiler
Just Cause 3 looks so fucking great. Need more gameplay!
Nice opening speech. He seemed sincere about listening to what the players want and need.
More Just Cause 3! Yes. This game looks so god damn good. I am sure that I will love playing Fallout 4, Tomb Raider and Metal Gear 5 but really, this is the one that I think I will have the most fun with.
So Nier is a sequel to the playstation 3 game Nier? I actually heard it was quite good but never got around to playing it. This one looks super atmospheric.
Tomb Raider didn't offer up much. Interesting stuff about the design, I especially like the bit about the scars passing on, however I'd hoped for more gameplay.
Lara Croft GO I will definitely be downloading. I loved Hitman GO.
Same trailer for Final Fantasy 7. Hoped for something more. Anything really.
Kingdom Hearts: Unchained Key actually looked good for a smart phone game. Never played any Kingdom Hearts but I might pick this up.
Kingdom Hearts 3 looks phenomenal. I want to play this. Which means I probably want to pick up the remastered games as well. Oh wallet, forgive me.
Not sure I get World of Final Fantasy. Sort of seems like Final Fantasy for Kids.
Love the Danish spokesperson for Hitman. Danish pride!
The concept for the community interaction sounds interesting. I like the suggestion of how the levels are bigger and attention to detail means that everything matters. I liked Hitman Absolution but the sandbox aspect of this new game appeals to me a great deal more.
I've heard of Star Ocean but never seen anything about it before. I think the concept behind it is far more interesting than the actual gameplay the showed.
Deus Ex sounds great. Would have liked some actual in game character interaction but eh. I can wait.
Now where the hell is the link to the PC Gamer conference?

Just watched the Nintendo event. Heh, no one does a presentation quite like Nintendo, love those muppets. And I absolutely love the look of Xenoblade, may end up getting a Wii U just to play that (and Earthbound).
