At this point, I'm willing to vote for whomever allocates funds for landmines all along the border.

As we have discovered in 2023, NATO instructors believe that the way to deal with a dense minefield is "go around it".

So I'd be very willing to endorse a major expenditure on land mines, all along the border, with the exception of several fortified border crossings.

For any who didn't see this article it's pretty horrible (though if you aren't traveling with potential "work equipment" or have a work Visa this particular rationalization for indefinite detention shouldn't apply---hopefully):

Quote

Jessica Brösche has spent more than a month in detention center

[...a] German tattoo artist, is being indefinitely detained by US Customs and Border Protection after she tried to enter San Diego on 25 January from Tijuana, Mexico, with her American best friend[...] The two were traveling with tattoo equipment.

"I just want to get home, you know? I'm really desperate," [...]

Brösche had her German passport, confirmation of her visa waiver to enter the country, and a copy of her return ticket back to Berlin[...] US Customs and Border Protection accused Brösche of planning to violate the terms of the visa waiver program by intending to work as a tattoo artist [...]

[...] she was forced to spend eight days in solitary confinement [...] "[...] it was like a horror movie. They were screaming in all different rooms. After nine days, she said she went so insane that she started punching the walls and then she's got blood on her knuckles,"

My sister is a DEEP Canadian Trump supporter, so is her husband (we don't talk AT all about it, to maintain sanity in our familial relationship; I realize this is not ideal but I just didn't want to lose my sister entirely). She works for an American company with locations here, and travels into Ohio for work every few weeks....Her industry is private, but very much interacts with the public and govt...and I have a sketchy feeling that DOGE is going to affect their business in the states as far as contracts and whatnot...not to mention the tariffs would affect her industry for sure.

I have ZERO faith that IF she is affected she will realize it's Trumps fault. She will probably blame Trudeau for not bending over.

Fun fact: During the beginning of COVID she was milquetoast about it (she wasn't as afraid as we were with young kids, but she wasnt insane about it either)....it was when it affected her job (she's in the aircraft industry) due to lockdowns that she went as far off that deep end as she could go...but she could not blame the pandemic as it was too nebulous an "enemy" so she aimed it where the right wing media Facebook sphere told her to aim it...at those of us trying to keep others safe.

If ICE sees her trying to enter the United States as a Canadian citizen wearing pro-Trump paraphernalia they might flag her as "suspicious". "She can't trick us that easily! Are you here to work in the United States without a work visa?" "Well yes but it's just---" "Ah-ha! Nabbed another one!" "No it's just for meetings---" "Oh she's being uppity, off to solitary confinement for her with the other screamers in a thousand languages!"
