That's Sen. Patrick Brazeau and he's nothing to write home about....kicked out of the Conservative caucus for Domestic and Sexual assault, has been picked up for cocaine possession, and charged with fraud and breach of trust related to his disallowed expense claims.
And he's famous for LOSING a boxing match to Trudeau.
He's a total mess and someone who I would never ever take seriously, nor does he represent the good of Canada. He's a scumbag.

Not just taking tariffs off, he'll promise to withhold support from Taiwan in return for Chinese aid against Canada.

Are we all hoping Carney wins when he inevitably calls a GE? I quite like him tbh and he sounds unafraid of Trump and his ilk.

He didn't just win the leadership race, he DESTROYED the others. He got 85.9% of the vote, and next best was Freeland who got 8% of the votes....so yeah he's the new Leader for the party.
I would imagine he'll call a general election sooner rather than later as the Liberals are flying high right now on JT's handling of Trump, Carney's economic prowess and his 'adult in the room' nature, and PP's loss of his two major talking points (The carbon tax [Carney stole his thunder and ditched it], and the Capital Gains stuff [also stealing PP's thunder]) means as soon as possible is best for Canada while Trump is a threat.
PP was asked why his cabinet members were wearing MAGA hats and he walked off stage and slammed the door. He's cooked, and he knows it.
It doesn't mean a guaranteed Liberal win (far from it) but it's definitely an actual RACE now and PP is going to have to find shit to campaign on that aren't mud slinging, bitching that Canada is broken, or any of that...becuase Carney is going to campaign on a united Canada keeping Trump at bay and reuniting away from the division in Canada that the US has been sundered by.

Oh and for what it's worth regarding Carney:
He's NWT born, raised in Edmonton, very well educated, has had an extremely successful career, and is just generally impressive.
The Conservatives could have put an MBA businessman up for leader, but they keep stupidly getting career politicians like Andrews Scheer and Pierre Pollievre, and wondering why it's not working...
Carney might have one of the best resumes before entering politics as a leader, possibly ever. And in a timeline in the past he could have run as a Conservative before they jumped to populism after OToole...which shows you just how far the Federal Conservatives have fallen from what they once were...they are tearing down a guy who could very much have won a Conservative leadership race against Stephen Harper's disguised Reform Party BS...they are all in on Maple MAGA populist anti-woke brigade now so they have to reject someone who on paper looks like a Progressive Conservative Candidate if it was 2002.

Alberta premier skips congratulations, demands new Liberal leader call election
The unmitigated GALL of MAGA-loving Danielle Smith (who is about to go down south and do a fucking PragerU event with Ben Shapiro) demanding Carney call the election right away while she sat as her parties unelected leader for a full 7 ass months before calling an Alberta Election to confirm her as premier...Just sheer "I know my base is stupid enough to buy into this and not bring up me as a counterpoint"
Out of all the premiers, she's the worst one and the only one to really bend the knee to Trump...and it's disgusting.
Also, it's a stupid talking point as Carney is expected to call one soon (I would argue 1-2 weeks TOPS before he does) to ride the high that the Liberals are polling at while PP looks so bad.

Honestly, this may be the most surreal period of Canadian politics i have ever seen.
Carney's win was a foregone conclusion but the sweeping extent of it on a single ballot is pretty much unprecedented... JT was close but had zero credible competition. I almost feel bad for Freeland, but her pro/anti JT flipflop was so visibly calculated that it lost her a lot of cred, and honestly, Carney can bring in a chunk of exasperated Tory and NDP voters that she never could. Nice work for a guy who would have been a conservative maybe a decade or two ago.
I admit to giggling every time PP avoids questions about trumpler, maga, and, well, everything. He's not politically dead, but in roughly two weeks he's gone from slam dunk PM-heir apparent to semi-second place scramble and it's all donald trump's fault wtf is this timeline even real?
Doug Ford just slammed a 25% tariff on Ontario electricity exports to the US. In reality this affects less than 2 million Americans in mostly Blue states so it's not the flying spin kick finishing move Doug is painting it as, but damn if the press here isn't making it look that way. Trumpler's flailing helps too. It viscerally nauseates me to admire anything Ford does but, yet again, he's the one in the seat and he's doing stuff and i doubt the Ont libs or ndp would have had the guts to do the same.
Smith... when did Albertans become dumb enough to buy this crap? I get it, the energy sector isn't what it was, their nice shiny energy isn't nearly as clean and friendly as it was suppoed to be, the money isn't just falling from dead fossilized trees anymore, they need someone to blame and it might as well be the rest of Canada but FFS their health care in shambles, jobless rate rising, their premiere rushing to the US to bend the knee, kiss the ring, and receive the brand.... and they STILL buy this nonsense. Can we have our rough n tough cowboy hat wearing midwest proudly-not-american-we-just-dress-that-way maniacs back please???
So yeah.... it's Monday. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this week rolls out.

Here's Jean Chretien's incredible speech in full:
For the uninitiated, Chretien is the best Prime Minister that has been in that office in my lifetime...he's no bullshit, and a working class Liberal who grew up during Dupleisses Quebec Regime in Shawnigan, so he's a Liberal with a bit of Quebec gangster in him (See: The Shawnigan Handshake where he choked out a protester who got too close to him) as was his wife Aline (who when an attacker broke into the PM's residence at 24 Sussex Drive in 1995 and made it all the way to their bedroom she woke up first, saw the knife and reportedly knocked his ass out with an Inuit statue...)...we have not seen his like in a long time, and at 91 years of age he still speaks with a verve that makes me feel proud of being Canadian.
I love the bit aimed at Trump directly "From one old man to another, stop this nonsense!"

To be fair, I understand that he's having meetings with the other Premiers to align them into a unified force of energy denial (Quebec being the biggest one we need to really hammer it home), and if he manages to wrangle them into line, it will have far more clout than just us doing it in Ontario.
And I reiterate that his path to being the next Conservative PM if PP loses the upcoming election is clear if he manages to pull off his junkyard dog tactics against trump and somehow gets Legault at least to fall in line...the FedCons would line up to vote him into leadership, as would a lot of the country (in 4 years or whenever the election is after the Carney VS PP one)...which is scary too since he's so corrupt...but I think he actually somehow garners the "working class" vote more than "lifelong Politician PP" does, so that would work well in his favour in Ontario and Quebec.

Accurate re Doug's long game... all he really needs now is Quebec and they're so angry they'll probably go for it. Then he sits back, lets PP take a beating, and his rise is set as long as he manages to avoid any serious scandal. Trumpler holds the line and fires back, Doug is the brawler leading the fight, effective or not. Trumpler folds (and calls it a win), Doug wins massive karma.
Irony, Carney can take a similar tack on the Federal level... do anything that appears aggressive and people will love him for it.

Unfortunately US citizens over 40 without a lot of money have a hard time emigrating. I’ve looked into it. I’m open to marriage though!
