I got book 4 for Christmas, I am quite enjoying it after watching season 4, it provides some nice context and detail that didn't make it to the show. I also like to see the differences between the two, most of which make sense given the change in medium.

I know. To their credit, the screamingfirehawks contingent of the fanbase, who Anvar more or less assembled, recognized, and was borderline worshipped by, didn't hesitate even slightly in utterly condemning him and supporting the women raising the conduct. It was at once astounding, reassuring, and nauseating.

It's kind of sad after the work he put in to help coordinate the fans to help save the show, but if this is indeed the case (and there seems to good evidence that it is), he needs to be replaced for season 6.

If he does get removed, its going to make watching season 5 really weird.

Yep.
It's not looking good. Multiple consistent stories. Even if he's being smeared (I do not think he's being smeared) his work on the show is likely done. His response, cutpasted from io9.com, was very cautious:

A friend of mine is an enormous Expanse fan. She's also someone who has had a history with several different kinds of abuse from her family and the cosplay scene.

Her reaction to this news was one of despair + anger because this thing she really loved got damaged by his actions.

After a bit of talking to her about it, what she said was striking - the knee jerk reaction is likely to can the actor or the show, but what she would like to see is the actor go to intense therapy, pay some level of financial restitution to those he hurt, and really apologize + do the work to get better instead of having a situation where he's jettisoned into society to go hurt more people.

That's what she would like. The money part was interesting because I immediately thought of child support and how that's a readily accepted concept, yet we don't have something in place for survivors of abuse and those who've done it.

One thing bugs me every time. Earth is winning the Mars earth war apparently but they went from a 5 to 1 to a 3 to 1 ship ratio.

If Mars has 100 ships earth has 500 5:1
If after fighting
Mars has 50 ships, earth has 150 3:1

There really is no way to think through this numbers that doesn’t make

I think they exaggerated the radio but when looked at it doesn’t work. Mars is killing earth ships at a ratio of 7 to 1. They are becoming less outnumbered not more. If the trend continues earth will run out of ships and Mars would still have 30 left.

Why does the Martian economy collapse so quickly because of the rings. The books might offer more details?

I get the rational that with perfectly good new earths out there terraforming Mars will become a low priority. However I don’t understand why Mars starts mothballing all its military ships, gear and missiles when instead it should want to remain strong to improve its negotiation position, carve out the best of the 1300 new world for itself and its own people. Not to mention to maintain protection for the colonists and its supply convoys against belta pirates. It could colonize these nee planets as the Martian republic instead of the free fall it becomes

However the ring colonization efforts are under blocksde so no one can leave yet. So why are all the jobs drying up so quickly?

My understanding is that the top scientists/military/politicians see that there is going to be a brain drain due to the possibility that you can go to a planet and be able to live outside a dome shortly (esp now that the ring gates are open in season 5). So all the top people Mars needs for terraforming will be gone, thus the project dies. I'd think they'd want to keep their navy to protect their colonists, and carry "the dream of Mars" through the Rings (as the Admiral in episode 503 says). The demilitarization is because they no longer need to fight Earth over the Sol System.

I wonder if the Martian state was so focused on terraforming and the military that even the people at the top didn't have all that much money, but now that that has stopped, those people are trying to cash out before moving.

I haven't read book 5 yet because I want to wait until after the show, it may explain it, or one of the novellas might.

Watched the season 5 final episode last night. Fantastic, great, loved the whole season as per usual. I've sometimes been a bit meh about Dominique Tipper's acting (in fact, I could say that about most of the main cast, at least in Season 1), but in this season she was excellent.

, I was like, wait what, when did that happen?! It was all so bizarre that I immediately went on the internet to see if there was any discussion of it, and sure enough I found out about the real-life events. How dumb and stupid - what a dick.

I thought they did a good job of writing Cas Anvar out of it considering how late in the day the scandal blew up relative to their filming.

While I love the show and really enjoyed the season overall, it wasn't quite as propulsive as Season 3, and season 4 was probably more even in terms of pacing. But holy shit that ending really opens things up for season 6. I'm hopeful that season 6 will be great since Dan& Ty seem happy to wrap up the show for now, and can obviously choose which parts from the remaining books they want to include or leave out. But they seem to be able to finish it on their terms. Fingers crossed.
