So with the revised version of the Game 1 list should we redo the order of who picks first?
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

RULES
I assume we're using all house rules established to date. The game III thread summarizes most of them.
The only major things changed in game IV were
Last: we talked about "default no reaction from passed players unless requested otherwise". Again, it doesn't prevent anyone from reacting, but it does speed things up toward the end of rounds.
On/Off thread conversation
We have flip-flopped on this in the past, but we have no alliances in this game, so IMO we should have everything on the table with no offthread discussion or secret conference between players via PM.

The only major things changed in game IV were
- the use of orkos dice roller (as opposed to me doing it P&P style)
- "rolling back" combat to the nearest mistake instead of "reroll entire combat"

I don't mind skipping this game if people want to start ASAP, and then playing in the other version from the 24th. I haven't tried out Vassal yet, but I don't see why I couldn't use it.
Although I'm also on the keeping it forum-side train. I like to imagine that there's an avid audience out there watching me implode.

nevermind, answered my own question. I have not had any experience with vasal at all other than to copy the zip file that contains eclipse images.

I'm listening to a podcast about how to play this game, and I'm all like - What have I gotten myself into!!
I have a feeling that I'll quite enjoy this once I've gotten the hang of how everything works! Will spend some time reading past games tonight!

It might seem a little intimidating at first but most of the actions you do are fairly intuitive.

Agreed. Took me 2 full action rounds before I really got the mechanics down. The rules are very well laid out and instructive for the most part - I would definitely read up on the different actions you can take in a turn
Just skim the combat part for now. You probably won't do much before you have a round or 2 under your belt and at that point it's easier to absorb the new information.
The main thing to pay attention to is the economy of the game because that's where a lot of mistakes in planning happen. Know the actions, their cost and their implications, and you'll at least set yourself up to be a condender for round 3 onward.

Ok, well since everyone wants to do a forum game and immediate start, nevermind what I suggested. Tatts can run just one game here and either Khell and/or me can sit out.

How about we start at a casual pace, if people are away they are away. The game properly starts on the 24th. We may get a couple of actions in.
Blend will buddy up with me. D'rek and Khell will both play.
D'rek it is up to you to pick your race.

Twelve, your turn to pick race.
Your choices are;
Terran Federation/Hydrani
Terran Republic/Descendants of Draco

It will be hard getting my thinking back to basics here since I've only played expanded games. No wormhole back-doors. No rare techs or developments, just the core game. Are we using either mini-expansion (ie supernova or pulsar)?
So I'm guessing it's basically a missile race for the first 1/2 of the game and then blasting each other to smithereens for the 2nd half? Fair assessment?

The Supernova may crop up. It gives you the option to use that one. The Pulsar will not be featured. I would say that is a fair assessment, although getting missiles may be too little too late as I recently experienced with Twelve.
