So Once Khell picks his race and I lay out the board does Khell go top right in the 12 o'clock position? Then you in the 2 o'clock?

I know the layouts because they automatically come up. I was mainly considering where people go on the board, but I guess it doesn't matter? As long as they are in the right order.

Regular diplomacy should be fine with the Vassal version of the game.

There are slots for it, and you can see them on the player cards.

Check your starting board and let me know what position you would like the hex rotated to.

The starting hex orientation should be oriented as shown above. Just froma glance at the map I can see that some of the hexes aren't aligned correctly.

Orientation for 6 or less players are predetermined. It's just for larger games that players can choose how to align their hexes.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
