It's probably something he's told B&W, yah, but I don't believe it says anything about completing the books. I'd wager he's had it in mind at least since Craster was introduced. I assume given the title that The Winds of Winter is gonna be pretty heavy on the White Walker info anyway, so it might be in there already.

I remember now. It's been hard to keep my head on straight; I've been on the road for close to 3 weeks!

I did notice the CPR kid from the beginning of this thread finally showed up last episode. At first I was disappointed that they wasted such talent on a nameless village kid, but now he's joined the Watch, so that's all good.

By the way, I loved the Margaery/Tommen scene. This is going to be so much better with an older Tommen, especially when he figures out that he's king and his mother has issues.

I don't watch the show, but I did watch the ending segment as it's given us something the books haven't yet.

Also, from the HBO synopsis: the White Walker at the end is the Night's King. Pretty damn big reveal for those who have read the books. It'll be interesting to see what new theories come to light.

I had thought that if the white walker could transmit the blue eyes and so on, that probably meant that there was a progenitor out there somewhere and that his or her survival was why they kept coming back over the centuries.

I liked the look of Night's King with his spikey head...but yeah that last few minutes showing that was the best for book fans, cause we've not seen much of them at all.

I'd actually forgotten all about the Night's King and his queen and the Nightfort story that Bran tells. Oh man, really cool. It's probably too much to hope for, but mayhaps Bran will tell the story and we'll get footage from the Age of Heroes, and the events that lead to the King in the North and the King Beyond the Wall uniting against him, while Bran relates it?

It might happen, but I'm not worried about it. At worst they'll argue about it and then Bran will be on his way and Jon on his. It could also be a good way to intro Jon's own warging in conversation with Jojen. I think it's more likely there will somehow be a near miss situation though.

Agreed on both points. Of course this probably means the kid is dead meat by the finale.

Yep, one or the other. But since there never was a good reason for Sam not to tell Jon, I think this makes sense.

Really Cause? A Canon discussion on a show that Martin is heavily involved in?

The thing is, the TV show HAS to bring things to light that might otherwise wait in a novel to be revealed, as the TV payoff down the road for these things, is a MUCH different bird than a novel payoff. My guess is this is either lifted from THE WINDS OF WINTER, or is a variation on something we will see in the novels down the line.

At any rate, the Nights King, his mistress, the Nightfort et al. is really important to the overall story at play here...so the chances this is accurate and required viewing (even at this early juncture) are pretty high.

Also totally possible. Not to mention his background is in screenwriting anyways (80's BEAUTY & THE BEAST tv show), so this is probably fertile ground for news ways to tell the story he's telling in the books.

He's already given B + W his 'plan' (or vague outline) of where he was taking the story. There are probably several elements that they've decided to bring forwards, especially where Bran and the Walkers are concerned. If they just followed the books Bran would probably disappear for two seasons while everyone else caught up.

At the moment B + W are acting like editors, cutting out the more superfluous events and characters... which can only be good when it comes to Dance.

At this stage Martin is probably be grateful for a team of writers who know the story inside out to help him finish the thing.

As I said I don't doubt its close to the truth but the TV show often makes things simpler to save time. We know the white walkers take the children and I have suspected this thing excactly and yet I hope for more.

If the show is going to give a way a lot of book spoilers I will want to stop watching. The books are better.

Honestly I think it was just a teaser and not much else this season will be divulged. It's happening off-screen in the books anyway. If it's depicted in TWoW it'll probably be a Bran POV "seeing" it with his tree powers or Jon with his wolf powers, but with a random wildling baby since the Craster's Keep stuff is already long over.
