Very jumbled, and the people's opening posts are not updated. Easier for CF to Mod with a little edit at the front page guys.

Tatts, have you considered all the juicy systems of D'rek that now will be completely defenceless? I'm hardly entirely without bias in this setting, but I imagine that you'll benefit more in the long run from attacking the strongest military threat of the region at a time when she's in no position to defend herself, rather than acquiring one mid-value system from me.

If D'rek holds me at bay this round she'll be much stronger, and most likely be able to tech up some with whatever appears next round.

I have no neutron bombs and I think if you had picked the neutron bomb absorber that D'rek may have left you alone as her neutron bombs wouldn't work on your systems. If I commit to D'rek then Twelve or Gnaw would easily take oer what I have. To help you I was going to move my influence from 107 so that D'rek can get through to the centre without breaking diplomatic relations. Not saying that she will but it is a move i'd consider if she wanted it.

Those double ancients are going to be taken over soon whether it be by Twelve, CF or myself. I am hoping Twelve leaves them to me this round but if he jumps in I could be in trouble.

Why would D'rek withdraw her cruiser to the centre, spending several discs on movement, instead of just building new units in hex 103?
And why would she leave Morghy free to retake his system and some of hers?

Why would I attack D'rek and leave myself a lot weaker and vulnerable? Your reasoning is sound. I just don't want to attack her. What are you going to do? You attacking someone yet?

Because if you don't you won't win? Look, D'rek has the potential of claiming my systems, several of which are quite valuable. She'll be much stronger than you in a round or two. What are you going to do then? Sit around and wait to finish third or fourth?

This is the only turn D'rek will be vulnerable. If you wait she'll be strong enough to continously threaten your position with you having no chance of expanding without opening yourself up for an attack. If you hesistate now you'll be stuck in your corner.

Khell and I were talking and in addition to updating the first page we decided to use bold in posts. Make it a tad easier to keep track of hopefully.

Btw Tatts, I would feel much relief if you'd move that dreadnaught. I realize that you could just move it back, but it just setting there is a distraction. :)

OK, doing updates

@SS - Your cruiser doesn't have enough energy currently. You could place it over the plasma cannon, or save it for an upgrade this turn. If you really want it on your cruiser right away that's the only option, and you can upgrade the energy + put the plasma cannon back onto it later.

Otherwise just keep it and upgrade later. More or less equivalent and not a game changer either way for you.

@Gnaw

Researched advanced econ for 10 science

@GP

Researched plasma cannons for 6 science

@Morgoth

Researched gauss shield for 2 science

@D'rek

Researched neutron absorber for 5 science - which track are you putting it on?

@SS

Researched positron computer for 7 science

@Tapper

Researched orbital for 7 science

@Twelve, over to you good sir.

Tapper, Twelve, D'rek and Gnaw are all in good positions or will be, I include myself in that list. By attacking D'rek now would be a huge mistake, I haven't got enough to attack her and defend my territory. If I go to war I will need to amount a defense.

I know the only reason I haven't is because it'll be wasting a move, I need to research and upgrade and build etc, I haven't decided where the Dread is going to go yet, as I might try and take the two ancients with 3 or 4 interceptors. It's a good defense sitting there for now.

Everyone needs to stop pussyfootin' around and start WARS!!!

Gnaw, if you're going to turtle (which it seems you prefer), you're in a good position for it right now. Use an influence to offload a couple of useless systems and start pumping out monoliths. I'd still be building a fleet were I in your position...if only to throw everybody off.

GP, this is the ONLY time you're going to be able to kick d'rek while she's weak. She can pump out another uber-hull dread this turn and or a couple of cruisers, at which point she's going to be very tough to strike at.

Solidsnape - start a war with Tapper! You're closed off in the other directions and he's going to plough you under by end of game for sure!

And the pirates try to sow chaos.

Though I mostly agree with that advice if only because it will make the game more interesting.

Though I'd also add that someone needs to attack Twelve and CF as well :)

I told everyone at the outset that survival was my main goal. It's my first game. Now the next game..... As for a fleet, I think I am going to go after the ancient on the other side of the supernova this round.

Tatt's, if you're going to attack D'rek (or myself) do it sooner rather than later. SS or Tapper are going to have to solve the problem of the other. So garnering a betrayal card now is almost certainly not going to cost you for long.

What do I need, using standard parts, to take him out? I was thinking of interceptors with muon source and a one point hull.

In most of my scenarios, the electron computer was the better choice. I had pretty crap odds against 2 ancients even with 3 interceptors though.

2 interceptors and a cruiser with standard components improved my odds considerably, but you don't have the benefit of built-in shields.

I suspect you'll need to use a lot of interceptors, or a combo of cruisers and dreads.3

EDIT

Scrap that...thought you were talking about the double ancient.

For a single ancient, really anything will do...they aren't that tough.

EDIT EDIT

Though I think if you're just fielding interceptors, the E-computer is your better choice, considering you have the init advantage.

EDIT EDIT

THat's based on numerous comparisons with my own ships. Adding the e-computer seems to confer a slight advantage over hull most of the time, especially with the interceptors. If you have a cruiser with 3 hull to back them up it's even better.

Research Advanced Labs at a cost of -9 science.

Edit:

Also colonize the advanced science slot in Epsilon Eridani leave 2 colony ships available.

3 standard interceptors aren't enough. With electron, it's only 81% or so. For that number of materials, building two basic cruisers with a hull on the blank will give you around 88% chance.

Must be odds are different then because of my shields. I haven't done any attack scenarios with non-rho indi ships. Thanks for the correction Tapper.
