In most of my scenarios, the electron computer was the better choice. I had pretty crap odds against 2 ancients even with 3 interceptors though.

2 interceptors and a cruiser with standard components improved my odds considerably, but you don't have the benefit of built-in shields.

I suspect you'll need to use a lot of interceptors, or a combo of cruisers and dreads.3

EDIT

Scrap that...thought you were talking about the double ancient.

For a single ancient, really anything will do...they aren't that tough.

EDIT EDIT

Though I think if you're just fielding interceptors, the E-computer is your better choice, considering you have the init advantage.

EDIT EDIT

THat's based on numerous comparisons with my own ships. Adding the e-computer seems to confer a slight advantage over hull most of the time, especially with the interceptors. If you have a cruiser with 3 hull to back them up it's even better.

3 standard interceptors aren't enough. With electron, it's only 81% or so. For that number of materials, building two basic cruisers with a hull on the blank will give you around 88% chance.

Thank you both.

OK, doing updates

@SS - Your cruiser doesn't have enough energy currently. You could place it over the plasma cannon, or save it for an upgrade this turn. If you really want it on your cruiser right away that's the only option, and you can upgrade the energy + put the plasma cannon back onto it later.

Otherwise just keep it and upgrade later. More or less equivalent and not a game changer either way for you.

Nah. Just stick it on the interceptor in place of the hull.
I don't want to use an action to upgrade when I can get it for nothing.

Must be odds are different then because of my shields. I haven't done any attack scenarios with non-rho indi ships. Thanks for the correction Tapper.

Yeah, with electron, you're at 93%, terrans only at 80 with it :)
Shields are generally seen as sucky to install, but as a free add-on, they are pretty decent.

@ Solidsnape. Don't forget that you have 2 material planets that you can colonize this round if you want
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Sorry to take so long...just deciding what to do.

I research distortion shield - somebody's got to, and my nearest & most likely future enemies have missiles already. Put it on the top track.

done

Nice move too. Toss a positron computer on that sucker and you've got a mean little interceptor. If you manage to nab point defense (when and if it comes up) then those interceptors will be an excellent anti-missile defense.

Very efficient round so far. Quite quick as well. After Khell, we may get another one in this week which would be pretty good.

Depends how this round goes.

Everybody seems to have a pretty good plan in mind, and nobody is massively ahead in resources except maybe Gnaw. Twelve has good territory but needs to think about consolidating the centre now. Tapper seems to have shifted toward economy building, GP, not sure what you're up to...SS's move is anybody's guess but he doesn't have the ships or materials to go after Tapper just yet.

Dunno about the others, but there are no obvious attack paths right this second....could be just a breather round for everybody, much as I'd love to see everyone at each others' throat! Ha!!

I'd be interested to see the result of D'rek and Twelve fighting for the GC this round. Those missiles of his aren't enough to take out her ships in a single salvo for sure, and despite her ion canons, he doesn't have the hull to withstand much if he wants to keep the init advantage of the missiles, nor does he have power enough to load them up with high-damage cannons.

OOh...I just realized GP you are one tech away from a free discovery tile on your middle track!

That is such a nice racial bonus.

How about you, you left yourself off the analysis. Are you going to keep munching on Khell?

You may have mentioned it before I picked plasma cannons, I could have got anti matter cannons :)

My fault I suppose.

I'm so glad you grabbed it and not D'rek. I debated on getting it myself but this tech is easier to overcome than point defense so I let it pass.

I can only really field the one dreadnaught against Twelve this round though, and with both his dreads that's 8 missiles (doing 1 dmg each and hitting on a 4, 5 or 6) as an opening salvo, then two plasma shots before I even get a single shot off, and my dread has only 7 HP. Not good odds for me. I thought about grabbing distortion shield, but he can always change his blueprints or plunk a few starbases down. Likewise, if I am on defense I can grab starbase tech and drop 3 of those instead, which would do better against his dreads than one of my dreadnaughts.

@Drek,

true, true. You have initiative though, and it's a pretty big gamble on his part to rely entirely on those missiles. One hit from you chops him down to size pretty quick. I dunno, the starbases would screw you for sure.

@GP

You get it when you research the 4th tech in a line. Also, antimatter cannons are pretty juice-hungry. You're probably better off with plasma at this point in the game unless you're going up against d'rek.

@GP EDIT

Yes, I left myself out. I think it's pretty obvious I plan to keep pecking at Khell. I'm kind of tied up in it now and I don't have much option to fly elsewhere. Tapper is still too strong and Gnaw is my new buddy (plus is sitting on 26 materials FFS). Ancients block my only other path and Twelve isn't a character I want to tackle just now.

Yeah and I don't plan to go after D'rek. People are trying to push me in that direction but I feel as though I am too weak to do it.

I like the way I am keeping you guessing though CF.

That was why I put Plasma cannons on my starbases on my last upgrade. I wanted additional support to plop down in the GC in case she came a knocking. Between my Dreads missles and cannons and starbase cannons I would have enough to take out one of her uberhulled ships before it got a chance to fire especially if I made my starbases glass as well with a couple more computers. 50% hits on 4 plasma cannons, 8 flux missles and 2 ion cannons is 9 points of damage. That's enough to take out her dread and damage her cruiser before it either gets a shot off.

Thankfully she is otherwise occupied this round.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Not any of my ships against his dreads, I don't. With the flux missiles he has 5. Gives my starbases an edge but not my ships. Of course, if he changed blueprints to counter my setup I might get a higher initiative.
