But did you figure out how you would fair against CF's 2 interceptors and cruiser BEFORE you tackled the 2 ancients? I'm sure those 87% odds aren't quite so good once you factor that fight into your equation.


Have a look at the map, he has a little obstacle in his way.



That only stops one interceptor. He has enough materials to build another one and he has enough moves to get three of his ships into that hex. I'm just saying if you ware planning on a wcs you might want to consider that bit of info.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

That's what you get for going after the last explore when you could have picked up some better tech. Might as well grab the gauss shields and have another go at the ancients before you hit the sack.

Better advice, IMO, would be to skip getting the gauss shields (unless you really want them) so you can pass early and have first turn again next round, and grab the good techs then! Gauss shields will probably still be available for a while. (assuming you aren't planning on taking 5 different actions this round)

I only suggested the gauss shields as the only affordable tech currently available that would help him take out the ancient(s) this round instead of waiting yet another round. I figured the reason he passed early this round is he wanted first dibs on the new tech this round. Apparently what he was hoping to get wasn't available. Probably improved hulls is my guess. Anyone else notice that after two rounds there are still no Phase shields that have been drawn? Not that I'm complaining but the last two games they showed up early and in large numbers. It's a nice change to not have them taking up space for better tech choices.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Battle simulator is pretty easy. Select your attacking race and defending race. Load out the ships in each category (interceptor, cruiser, dread, starbase) as they would be for the battle (or as you think they might be), and put the number of ships of each type in the number box above each loadout. For race, you are magellans, and you'll notice there is no choice for Magellans. Just use Terrans, since your ships have no race-specific bonuses and thus act identically to the Terrans' in a fight.

Then go to the top right and enter the number of battles to run. I usually do 10,000. Hit run simulation and it will give you the number of wins and losses for the attacker and defender. The number of wins for attacker/defender is essentially

If you want to run just a single battle to see how it might play out, click "detailed output" and set the number of battles to 1. It will give you a detailed breakdown by round.

I just ran a quick sim there. If you put all 3 cruisers in that double ancient hex, upgraded with a hull and plasma cannon on your cruiser blueprint, your win chance is like 95%.

You might need an intermediate upgrade to get everything there. Say, on your first upgrade, place 2 additional nuclear drives on the cruier blueprint (one in the free spot and one over your cannon). Then that cruiser sitting way up north can make it to the double ancient with 1 move action. Your other 2 cruisers can make it there on your next move action. Then take a second upgrade action to swap one of the nuclear drives for a hull, and add the plasma cannon.

So a total of 4 actions, and you would have 3 ships in the double ancient hex with a 95% chance of winning. That's pretty fuckin good, considering you would get a discovery and 3 immediately colonizable planets out of the deal.

And the one guy you have diplomacy with (tapper) is deterred from attacking your backside in your home system because he'd earn the traitor card if he did so...plus you could crush him next round when you fight back with 3 cruisers.

I'd say you're in a good spot to expand!

Just realized you probably won't have the economy to do all of that AND take the system, but you can influence it next turn just as easily.

Or lash out at your only ally...ha. That will probably end in disaster though. His interceptors are dangerous with that +3 computer.
