I don't know, what do you hear?

I just rode down a bandit from horseback, and quite literally cut his chest in half - he fell in two bits onto the path. Actually, the whole head/limb chopping is pretty spectacular.

Edit.. there's also his stuffed companion...used in certain 'scenarios'!

Nothing referential as I've not played the game but a lot of gaming groups seem to be reporting that the Horse behaves oddly in terms of the programming - think Skyrim horse physics or something.

As a heads up for xbox players, don't use the auto resume feature. There's a glitch that disables the ability to save or auto save, as I learned the hard way last night... Best thing to do is fully exit the game, force quit from dashboard, or hard reset the box. It's a bit irritating, but at least it was only 2-3 hours of easy stuff to redo.

I'm getting used to saving often. It's pretty annoying to carefully clear a couple of camps, loot a load of stuff, then get taken out by a single mistake and have to redo. (the damn targetting in most cases; targetting is fixed on something close, which then runs; Geralt turns to face it while I'm clicking to retarget the new closest, but in that time I'm hit in the back and go down.)
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah, I have been too. Learned that it was important after the second encounter (drowners during the initial Vesemir part) rocked me several times on blood and broken bones difficulty.

In my case last night, I was running around playing gwent so saving was less important. I tried to save during a monster hunt and it was unavailable. I figured it was due to it being the fight, but turns out it was the glitch since I couldn't save at all.

Great game though.

Yeah I don't even bother with the targeting system unless there's only one enemy. The game soft-targets based on who your camera is focused on already, which is really easy to control on PC.

Still in White Orchard currently, only put 4 or 5 hours in but really enjoying it so far. I think this is a game I'll take my sweet time with, rather than rushing through the story.

I finished the White Orchard story, and it moved on, but I've reloaded an earlier save so I can actually finish the area properly first.

I've remembered from my switch from Dark Souls to Witcher 2 that you just point into the direction you want to attack - it's becoming more fluid now, diving and parrying and sending limbs flying.

Found a few more quests I'd missed previously too, it was worth going back. Beautiful sunsets and weather effects.

Loving the shit out of this game. I big "aha" moment was using the sidestep instead of roll, completely changed combat.

Excited about all your glowing reviews - can't wait to play. Brought my computer in and it seems like the motherboard is fried, the ram doesn't work, and my hard drive has something like 750 errors so it's getting to the end of its life. Good news is, my case is still fine... So I'm forking out $900 and buying a pretty much new one. This is turning into a pretty expensive game.

I was just wondering why a sword forged with silver for killing monsters is not suitable for killing humans?

Are the two swords a bit of a gimmick or is more explained in the books? As Geralt now automatically draws the right sword for the situation I just wondered why he's carrying two about with him.

It's been a few months since I've read the books, but I think Geralt explains that a Silver sword would break / be dulled if it were used to whack away at heavily armoured humans, because silver isn't as strong as steel or something.

I probably should be at the forefront here but truth is I'm focusing on Inquisition right now. TW3 will get its time in the next two weeks of my glorious medical leave, though.

Glad to hear you guys are loving it. Also, sidestep sounds awesome, felt so weird rolling around the place all the time.

I'm mostly sticking to witcher contracts for now, and I like that the writers stayed true to the original formula: no straight kill-it contract, always a twist. Also, the Bloody Baron questline is fucking brilliant; do it early whatever you do.

But my, some of these monsters are damn disturbing, as in on a par with Dark Souls level of grotesque.

GOG the already offers a Mac installer. Dunno about steam.

It's been a few months since I've read the books, but I think Geralt explains that a Silver sword would break / be dulled if it were used to whack away at heavily armoured humans, because silver isn't as strong as steel or something.


I recall that the Silver sword is really just there for those monsters that require it as many have a natural weakness to Silver. By the books, that's not true for all monsters, though, and this is what necessitates the two blades. The silver is just an overlay added to a normal iron blade, from W2, I think.
