Been reading some of the reviews. General consensus: (beyond the "oh god, this is awesome"):
-the open world is generally well-realized, in a sense it's not just one village copypasted hundreds of times
-main story is adequately gripping, though not the best thing ever. Some reviewers focused on the portrayal of women and violence towards them with not-so-great comments
-some disagreement b/w individual reviewers as to the quality of optional content-some refer to "hundreds of fetch quests", others considers most quests to be unique, due to the personal decisions, even if it's not obvious if they go anywhere/have any impact.
-consoole versions are locked @ 30 fps. When scenes get "busy", game has problems handling it, graphical glitches and frame rate drops happen.
-following on this, there's apparently scandal afoot that the final game won't look as good as earlier screenshots. (personally, I found TW1's graphics to be perfectly adequate-that's not why I play games anyhow), and so that may be smth we'll be hearing about post-release.
-combat has been simplified (no more manually picking steel/silver sword), blocks don't use stamina, there's now a dodge and a roll. Difficulty scaled down, overleveling on Normal is likely. But potions can once again be consumed in combat!
...
It sounds like CDPRED "mostly" nailed their goal of "make an interesting open-world game AND fill it with interesting content". Eurogamer preview compared the "livability" of the world with Red Dead Redemption.
NA unlock on Monday, which is a long weekend. Though i'm not planning to play it until I do a recap of 1 and 2 (to start either tom or Sat), I'll probably still launch it just to see if my PC melts or not.
The problem with the gene pool is that there's no lifeguard

And I want to state that Ment has out-weaseled me by far in this game.
