Sorry I'm here, I just spent 10 minutes trying to log on to the bazaar, never realizing I was mispelling "munin" as "mugin". And nothing has changed since last time I checked anyway :(

I think your first quote definitely has merit, the underlined does read as a potential musing, however; did this come before or after the assassin thing was put up on the bazaar?

I don't understand the connection you make with the second quote. At all. Am I missing something? Are you assuming he is an assassin, and also has a higher than 1 LP total? And is willing to risk lowering it?

I am here for 5 seconds. Tired and yearning for bed, not going to do a vote count but I will do a time update.

It is Day 2. 5 hours and 4 minutes remaining

I trawled through my inbox (20+ PMs) for whoever purchased the contract with alignment info, but I culdn't find it in the question & ability threads, nor in the storage threads.
Whoever bought it, forgot to mention it to me. Which means I can't provide the infoes.

It is late on the second day of the Election when Huassan ibn Qolat and his entourage enter the audience hall. As always, he brings a gift: a deadly little puzzle of his own design, this one carried on a brazier of coals. Clearly, temperature plays a part in its solution. I have a fondness for Huassan, mostly because of his ingenuity and the rare pleasure he finds in designing something for the enjoyment of others. I am therefore delighted to make him my official Foodtaster, upon his own request. I have no doubt that the canvassing for that particular title caused him much pain and suffering, and quite likely, mountains of dinari. But if one man can suffer that plight, it is the Lord of the House of Luxury.

Huassan smiles when I touch the puzzle and it folds in on itself, displaying the pearl within it. I take it out of the brazier, scalding my palm. The burn will be gone in an hour or so, but I want to find out how to assemble it again. I am sure my courtiers will love playing with it. With some luck, a doddering fool will press the release for what looks like five poison needles, smelling faintly of molten rock scorpion poison. Deadly, and solid at normal room temperature, fluid when close to the temperature at which water boils. Huassan's grin broadens when I manage to assemble it. I smile, for this little diversion was a pure and simple delight for the five minutes it took.

Huassan ibn Qolat of the House of Luxury has been granted the title of:
Chasnejir-Bashi (Chief Poison Taster – Courtly Title)
Passive.
You cannot be assassinated.

To raise another point, if I may: it seems to me as though lynching someone with a high post count is somewhat counter-productive if you're hoping to get some of the quieter players into the game. What kind of message does it send if the person with the highest post count is voted off? I would imagine it says "Keep your head down and you'll survive." You are not going to get low-posters contributing by voting off high posters, that's my opinion. Perhaps something worth bearing in mind, anyway.

Yeah, I hate the recent trend of voting off the most vocal players because I think it is counter to the spirit of Mafia, which is mostly discussion-based, even in a game like this which is TMDI 10+ and focused around buying/selling goods. So hence my problem with low-posters. :(

But I still need to think about this case. I'll probably do a reread before deciding to vote or not vote at all today.

Now I resent that. I have purposely been trying NOT to vote for anyone right off the bat that reminds me of Khell.

vote Karatallid

how dare you accuse someone of being Khell! thats blasphemy in it's highest form! ;)

Looks like no lynch is going down tonight. I can't say that that bothers me at all. The Korlat case did bear looking into, but he seemed to be fairly legit in his response. I am happy to go into day 3 with a full contingent of people.

oops,

remove vote

should probably do that before I bail for the weekend. Someone will accuse it of being a serious vote.

As the dawn breaks, I break my fast in the gardens on the Northern Terrace, overlooking the Quarter of the Coin. The first thing I notice is the absence of the Tower of the Transmuter. Where it once stood, a smoking ruin is all that marks the place where once Mage Goldenhand and his students laboured, turning base metal into gold and where they fiddled with the laws of alchemy, weight and mass. The carnage is absolute, there are no survivors. A report has already been made by the city watch, and it seems enterprising rogues have salvaged Abaqaq's Smelter, Goldenhand's djinn. They have put it up on the bazaar for a ridiculous amount of money.

The Dreadfather has been spotted on the streets. The dark enforcer of the Cult is a tragic, misunderstood figure, walking the rope of reason above the looming chasm of murderous insanity. It will chafe on him that his allies are the Thieves he usually hunts. It is like a hunting cat teamed with hares: a recipe for disaster. Nevertheless, the tight discipline that is Hassan's one rescue line hasn't yet snapped. Elsewhere, ibn Qolat's latest puzzle seems the talk of the taverns, where clientèle huddles over braziers, torches and anything else the puzzle can be heated in, prodding at it with tongs, sticks, dagger tips and flicking it up and down. So far, one taberna has burned down as a brazier fell over, and thirteen fatal casualties as a result of the tiny poisonous barbs in the contraption have been reported. The fact that the Festival of Masks coincides with this puzzle doesn't help: festivities in the bawdyhouses spill over into the streets, leading to more accidents as joyous revellers busy themselves with the puzzle and the puzzlers.

Karatallid is dead. She was Lady Bliss and Mage Goldenhand, of the Cult of the Vultures.

The hird day of the election brought another merchant to my court. This time, it was Fatima Nun of the House of Luxury, a lady who caters to the desires of the rich and the powerful. And her wares are excellent. Whether she will make a decent Ordinance Distributor of the Grand Arsenal, I really don't know. I do not think her regular expertise has anything to do with stacking arrows, oil bombs and crossbow and ballista bolts, but I am no military person. And of course, a title is just that. There is staff to run the actual business, or nothing would ever get done in politics.

Fatima Nun is now Berat-emini.

Huh, so the assassin has struck, it seems. I guess we should go back and take a look at Karatallid and figure out why she got chosen. I don't recall any clear evidence about what side she was on...

Also, a third title gone! This game is getting one-sided.

My point about the second quote is that anyone confident about unlocking the Riddle of Despair must either have more than 1 combat strength, or more than 1 life point. I figure the former of the two is more likely, since if that's the case then the player defeats the assassination attempt and doesn't lose anything. Someone running around with a combat strength of 2 would be pretty nasty (but plausible for an assassin, who needs an advantage in that stat in order to make a kill).

But what weakens this line of argument is that the assassin contract was put up before that musing. It doesn't really make sense for them to be in that order, so I'm starting to lean away from that line of thought.

Berat-emini (Ordinance Distributor of the Grand Arsenal – Courtly Title): 30000 dinari

OK, so I went and had a look back at Karatallid to see if I could find any obvious faction tells. There wasn't a whole lot, but a few interesting bits and pieces:

- In favour of keeping people alive so that the economy keeps moving => Needs to acquire goods that she didn't have (makes sense looking at that Item in the bazaar - she probably needed all the metal she could get her hands on to summon her Djinn)

- Claimed not to have much money => Some people have said they see this as threatening.

- Was interested in the market thefts. => Perhaps some of her stuff got stolen? But then again, she would have been looking to buy metal rather than sell it, I'd have thought, and it was Metal and Jewelry that were stolen yesterday.

- Agrees with Anthras about me being a Warrior, and voted for me yesterday. Given that Warriors are more likely to be of the Nepeth, that might have given the impression she was in the HoA faction. This is probably the most interesting bit of evidence around.

So based on that trawl, I could see why someone might think she was a member of the Houses of Agreement. Maybe this was a Beggars Guild/Cult of Vultures hit?

I'll bet a couple bucks that there's a warrior on each side. The house if Iron for the HoA, the Nepeth for the allianced people.

Could be right though, people might have thought that and offed her.
