Personally, i do not have that patience.Plus the Dragon magazine novella, is a revised version of "Arms of the Kraken".Told from a number of different points of view.

It seems ages ago I read the series. I forgotten alot of names. But as GRRM been taking so long in writing the 4th, I'll wait before I decide to re-read until near when the 4th comes out.

New PoV is still a mystery i think. Haven't really followed the book discussions at the board. Just the same old stuff discussed over and over again. Mostly hang in the Misc. forum.

I would rank A Song of Ice and Fire slightly above Erikson's work. But from there, a huge gap forms.

they look at erikson one book at a time, sometimes just a section at a time, you can't read erikson like that - you need to hold in mind the massiveness of his work...

In GRRM s defence. His world is based very closely on that of Medieval England circa War Of the Roses. Therefore the panoramic scope that SE strives for was never GRRMs intention.
The main character count is actually 10+ ( each with their own chapter headings ). Also his supporting cast now runs into hundreds. Have you seen the extended family tree and allies list at the beginning of the books. To keep account of al those characters and allegiances is a mind boggling task.
He's still a lazy sod tho'.

Have you all read the short story he wrote called "The Hedge Knight" for the Fantasy Compilation? Me thinketh he should do more of them while we wait for Feast of Crows, which, I might add, I am very much looking forward to. Wouldn't you much rather have the grit of Martin than the repetitive money-making, endless, sicophantic flowery nonsense of Jordan?(Deep breath, cool wet grass.)

I've read 'Hedge Knights' while i read 'Legends' (btw. you cannot miss theses short stories if u are a fan of any of the authors who wrote in it. Ursula K. Leguin's story was especially good). I think, other than 'Fevre Dream', 'Hedge Knight' is Martin's best work...and definitely the best set in aSoIaF universe...

I don't think you should disregard any opinion, after all, one of them may be your own after you read it. If the majority says to go for it, then you should give it a try. And if somebody you have taken advice from before and it turned out right, you should give his/her opinion a slighty larger weight.
I'd say: try them out. Nobody I gave them to for reading has been dissapointed, even one person who didn't like GotM (I have to push him for another try though :-).

Time will tell. If it does than I will be more than happy to admit I am wrong as I do love the series. But a four year wait for a book that has neither a beginning nor an ending is absurd in my mind. Erikson has pumped out four quality books since aSoS was released for crying out loud.
