Trying to attract attention to himself, as pre usual.

Did you notice, Lady A, that you are being credited with the influx of writers migrating from this forum (me, SL, and Brood).

Things are getting busy there.

Also, have a look at this forum.

I also hope she'll find her buddy Faceless Man

*sigh* I wish this book had been finished in time for summer. I remember reading a Storm of Swords three years ago on my deck in the blistering sun and loving it. Always seems like my favorite author's books are released in the winter right around exam time. RARRGGHHH

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya punk?

Some real bad news for waiting fans, the book has been delayed yet again, at least according to the publisher, who has changed the April 2003 release date (it was originally November 2002) to August 2003. I think they are more reliable than stores like Amazon, and this is annoying. They probably know that if the work still isn't finished now, they won't get it out by April.

btw amazon.co.uk have gone off the charts completely and now list February 2004!

Just to get back to the point on metaphor in LotR...i remembered discussing this issue before, on the "Mr Tumnus" thread.(page two of Book reviews )

"I was just trying to point out CSLs deliberately metaphorical complex approach. Compared to the version of LotR that i own. Which contains a forward by JRR in which he states there was no deliberate metaphors in MiddleEarth ( eg Mordor=Nazi Germany), he was striving to create a new "Beowulf" and a new mythology for English literature to rank alongside the Norse pantheon.(Which he did very well )"

I know quoting yourself is a sign of meglomania...but i thought it was relevant.

maybe I'll give them another go Methion.

My judgment may have been slightly coloured by an interview in which GRR martin said he'd visited Hadrian's Wall on a trip to Scotland!!

It's my wall, not theirs!!

I am quite surprised buy ASOIAF. I started reading the first book (can't for the life of me remember the name) and din't think much of it, but I persisted and I am about half way through Clash Of Kings and I have to say it is a bllody great series (so far) of books. I can't put the bllody thing down now. If only there was some way to get out of work and read (or more likely go drinking. It is nearly that time now)

Don't listen to what Amazon says. They just guess at the release date. Hopefully the book will be out this year, but it's hard to say. And GRRM isn't being lazy, he's just having difficulty writing it. Big difference.

The bleakness and 'Grey' characters make the book more believable. Its more realistic and lifelike to have people who are neither totally good or evil but have a bit of both. It is also more realistic to have despair and not much hope - i imagine the dark ages was a pretty miserable time for alot of people.

Falco as for Ned having a Love child - are you sure its his? most people assume its his sisters and he claimed Jon to keep him alive.

Probably a stupid question (like always) but how do they measures years in SOIAF? Since a summer can last for years it can't be spring-summer-autumn-winter obviously...
