So there's a cage match over at Suvudu in which Rake is one of the characters and predictably, he's steamrolling the opposition who can't do anything buy delay the inevitable for a few minutes. But in the latest match up, it seems that the blog writers want to get rid of him by promising a "treat" for the readers in the form of a Patrick Rothfuss write-up if they vote for Rake to lose even though he's up against a character who's WELL below his power levels.

As a Rake fan, I find this offensive...so here's a clarion call to all you Malazan buffs. Go out and vote for Rake in the link above to counteract this. Not asking anyone to blindly vote for Rake either. Read the write up, the comments below it and decide for yourself who deserves to win.

Pretty sure 300,000 years ago is the early-times Wu history that we've witnessed in flashbacks; the Imass/Jaghut wars and such, or maybe the K'Chain/Tiste wars. Rake is considerably older than that.

We don't know how old Rake is but it is likely that he could be a lot older than 300,000 years. Maybe somebody like D'rek can come in here and point us at a relevant quote. It's hard to use known events of the Elder Age to gauge how old someone or something is because the age basically spans from circa 100,000 years ago (when humans seem to have risen to dominate) and as far back as you care to imagine (Or maybe just back to the age of wandering?)

But.

We can make guesses.

We know that the Imass did the Ritual of Tellan 300,000 years before the events of MOI.

We know of the clash between the Andii, Edur and KCCM. An event that happened after the Sundering of Emurhlan and the Tiste Andii Exodus from Kurald Galain.

It is said that just like the Tyrants dominated the Imass, so did the KCCM (Matrons?) dominate the Jaghut. The age of the KCCM was coming to an end when the Sundering of Emurhlan and the Exodus of the Andii occurred. Which could indicate that the Rise of the Jaghut civilizations in the imminence was yet to occur. Which means that the Imass was still very young at the time of the Exodus if they had even begun to leave their caves. I doubt they had yet to create their own first empire at this point. And Raest had yet to pressure them into doing the Ritual.

How long a gap is there between the Exodus and the Ritual of Tellan? Who knows. Could be a hundred years, could be a hundred thousand, could be more.

And how long a time passed between Mother Dark birthing Rake and the time when Mother Dark turned her back on the Andii? For all we know their civilization could have lasted for untold eons before strife tore it a part.

Of course the problem with guessing about Eriksons timelines is that we can't trust that everything occurs in a liniar path.

Could be that the Matrons had been dying and the KCCM pushed back for the past hundred thousand years at the time of the Sundering. Could be that the Imass were rising to power at the same time the Jaghut were. Could be that they were already at war with the Jaghut at the time of the Exodus. We can't be sure.

But I suspect that Rake is probably closer to half a million than 300,000 years old.

Anyway, the Khakanas books will probably lay it all out.

Its for them to promote their website and getting an author to write it will do that. Even if we somehow convince SE to save Rake with the same promise its sill suvudu who win.

Go and vote Rake up!! And Saphira in the Zaphod Beetlebrox/Saphira match up, because beetlebrox keeps winning against stupidly incredible odds. Id like him knocked out now so he wont go up with Anomander next round. Id rather not have some stupid turn out there. AND if Saphira makes it, then we get a dragon vs dragon write up, and thtd be cool. Plus i heard a rumor that Erikson may or may not have offered to do the write up if Anomander finals, and thatd be reeaally badass.
