Talking of Japan, I've been listening to the new Band-Maid album, Conqueror. It was very confusing at first. One minute it's like they're channelling Taylor Swift, the next they're rocking out on some of the heaviest songs they've done yet. But it's really starting to grow on me. It's (obviously) a lot more diverse than the out and out hard rock of the previous albums, particularly World Domination, but I'm starting to think it benefits a lot from that diversity. Very brave of them to open the album with a pure pop song, PAGE, especially. Usually the albums that grow on me are the ones I stick with the longest, so time will tell. Whoever gave Kanami, Akane and MISA their respective instruments deserve medals.
Also looking forward to the new Lovebites album next month.
Yeah. Band-Maid are one of those groups whose performers are very, very good at their individual instruments. The fact that they look like they'd call you Goshujin-sama is just a bonus.
So on this list I own:
#66 - which is really good
#63 - which changed my perception on progressive metal
#62 - which is average
#60 - which made me realise how you can interweave melody with dissonant riffs
#56 - which is Sabaton's best, easily
#41 - which is sugoi desu
#39 - which is easily TBDM's best album yet
#38 - which is ok, but not great
#26 - which I saw live in its entirety and it was amazing
#25 - which is average at best
#21 - which is very unga but great for the gym
#17 - which is where we see the downfall of Sevenfold in that after the Rev died they just went to shit
#10 - why is this here? It's Devin's weakest Project album by far. Pick Sky Blue instead, asshats
#3 - which is Gojira's most recent album (some huckster put something out with their name on it in 2016 but it was pure shit and non-existent in the Gojira canon)
As a metal fan it's quite a weak, populist list overall.
