Actually, i thought we were discussing the logistics of how the package is unpacked and why it worked certain ways for some and not others. 'Who'd win' is in fact the point Arkady raises for why Connor self-vent'd but i don't think that's what we're talking about just now.

Tho that brings up the curious point of why Arkady assumes Luke would ally with Mark. Presumably Luke was part of the decision to toss mark out in the first place. Sure, both of them are pretty unanimously despised, but we haven't seen anything to suggest they would work together, tho admittedly putting a hole in Luke's head may have swung him one way or another.

On the other hand, he feels the need to come back and tell the others about it, rather than letting them think he's dead.

Also, the numbers are so against them that Mark and Luke would be at a serious disadvantage even if they joined forces. This begs the question of why connor felt the need to kill himself. I think Arkady may have been wrong about him doing it for the power up.

well, we're not exactly sure how much information arkady input into connors brain. he could have known about the in-between dead and alive phase, when arkady spoke to the future FA and connor decided that getting a chance to look into, or have the future speak to him was worth the price of a bullet in the brain, package upgrades aside. though from his experiences it seems that perhaps in this stage, time breaks down. he's seeing that chav (can't remember her name) walking toward whitecastle in the past, maybe talking with mark while he's unconscious a few buildings away, and also seeing the future angels and their great big machine.

On a whim yesterday I started a re-read of the series. Go read ep 008 for some VERY interesting revelations about Arkady in light of recent events.

Also, in 009 Kirk kicks a pantless Luke in the nads.


@Toste i suspect Ellis' point is to mindfuck with any pre-conceived notions of time the reader has going in.

Today's ep - more Connor and Mark psi-babble heavy in subtext... mark is playing a very interesting game..., and that last page with Alice... i have to wonder how much of a coincidence is that page 7 ad that features shows KK... and i really hope i'm right because that would be SO cool... or on the other hand something really really bad is about to happen.


Btw, interesting re-read note: back when Arkady mindfucks Luke with her OD download, she mentions that she saw the future and Luke was supposed to be killed for what he was about to do to his ex girfriend but she's stopped that from happening.

Somewhere around ep 26 Arkady then tries to see the future again and freaks because she hasn't changed it enough. And look what happens to Luke...

On the bright side the skip made me finish my reread up to Luke's soliloquay, and may i say, this series reads even better as a whole. Ellis was laying down hints all the way back to the beginning and it's all kinds of awesome when it becomes clearer. Arkady is actually even more interesting than she seems, KK has a LOT more depth, and Alice is fokkin brillant she is.

I'm doing a reread of the series now too, it's really neat to see things considering the light that has been shed on the package and package upgrades and such.

Anyone else think Arkady is what Tuon from WoT would look like if she were steampunk?

(and Mark is up to some serious shite from the sound of it)

very interesting episode. it occurs to me that it's kind of unfortunate that arkady was the first one to get an upgrade. she's not a very deliberate person and her explanations are more like babbling. if connor could give the others upgrades on his first foray into the land of undeath, why couldn't arkady? answer: she never thought of it. she's too scatterbrained.

but things should get very interesting now that the whole crew is leveled up.

Considering he's not really dead and already has the upgrade, it makes sense.

A few eps ago Arkady implied she could show KK how to teleport, so she may have implicitly know the upgrade was a possibility but it took someone with Connor's coherence to realize it.

esp if it's a plane as part of the hypothetical american force.

The last panel shows KK upgrading from ground level so whatever Alice is seeing it's not KK in the flight suit we see in the p7 ad.

Conor is different because he was expecting something to happen when he shot himself... the others (Arkady and Mark) didnt know who/what the voices where and what it meant at the time of their "death".

Tho' Luke almost did, enough to recognize the other FAs verbally abusing him mid death-experience.
