Too much filler at times as well. The first half or so was building up to be excellent, then around after connor killed himself and Luke came back the story started going downhill. Even more so when the whole Mark threat fizzled out.

Okay, just read the very last entry. Yeah, I don't really know how the final chapter could have sucked more.

When I think of it, the essential story was about the Freakangels coming to terms with their powers, reuniting and fixing their mistake. That's a decent story, but the ending is terrible in its pacing and hits the wrong notes for me.

Yow.

^This.

It's not that I think the story went wrong or absolutely needed to go out with a bang, but the pacing at the end is totally off. The closer the end approached the more it felt like they just needed to fill in the last volume, to get enough pages, while there either wasn't enough story left or Warren Ellis just couldn't be bothered. Lots of cool art [and Duffield really gots heaps better than he was at the start of FA], but little substance, which didn't do the end much good.

The whole business with Mark, hinted at at the very beginning, didn't go anywhere.. *sigh*

That said, Alice rocks.

@ Amph

PLANETARY

GLOBAL FREQUENCY

THE AUTHORITY

STORMWATCH

OCEAN

and IGNITION CITY

were all very satisfying overall to me, whether they ended or not...the stories he told were all satisfying. Just MHO though. To me PLANETARY alone ranks him as tops for me.

He's also done some crap and poor stuff. I think he's a when he's good..he damn good...and when he's bad he's pretty bad kind of writer.

Absolutely. No bang at all, just out with a long, (well) drawn-out whimper.

And they all hugged and went to live in the magic satellite. Yawn.

Mark had such potential... i kept waiting for a sudden reversal, like 'While you all thought you were reprogramming me, i was reprogramming YOU!', or at least an assault by his mindfucked slaves, maybe even with Luke jumping in... instead we got... about seventeen pages of water receeding and then they all go live in the magic satellite yawn. At the very least, alice should have shot someone in the crotch with her shotgun.

As a whole work, FREAKANGELS remains worth reading, but the ending is just barely ok.

All i ask for is Alice with a shotgun and Luke delivering a lecture while his head sprays blood everywhere.
