B*tching about bit*hing about bi*ching... Outlines the apparent issues concisely.

I remain convinced that ChrisW (who I think posted here regularly at one time) isn't telling us everything about why he stopped reading the series, like GRRM came round his house one time and killed all of his pets and feasted on their carcasses in front of him. Martin apologised for using his ASoIaF Update page as a political soapbox fairly profusely and started his blog in direct response to criticism over that issue.

He also misses out listing the fifth group of people who are in it for the snark and take every chance they can get to rip people to pieces (GRRM, his editors, other fans) for no immediately discernable reason.

I actually liked that little write up, it kind of sums up my feelings on the situation and I definitely belong to the lastly named group. Much like ChrisW, I have felt insulted on more than one occasion by GRRM's attitude and apparent lack of consideration for his fans or the people who buy his books. At times I feel he's almost mocking on his blog about the whole situation. It was a definite turn off for me and my feelings about the man have in great part lead to my not wanting to read anymore of the books.

To be fair, he was responding to some pretty dickish comments. Overreacting like a madman, but for a reason.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Speak of the devil...

Paran shame on you for linking to something I wrote.

As for acting like a madman perhaps I was but i'm not going to apologise for my actions, although I do admit I could have gone about it differently but given that I was sitting in Kuwait(from memory) on my way back from a 6 month holiday in Afghanistan(so prolly a bit more highly strung than usual) and I was still processing the death of someone I had great respect for I feel I handled it quite well :) .

cya's!

Apologies if I caused any problems ChrisW, your post seemed to echo my sentiments on the whole thing. Props on the site, love the links getting constantly updated.

Wert, that point was covered already in the post and seems to be an evolution of group 3 in retaliation to group 1 + 2 attacks on them. Also, while you make the point that Martin moved his politics to his "Very Much a Blog", he has not maintained his updates on his site, uses his blog for merchandising more than his site, so conversely gets more visits to his blog as his site is woefully out of date. Then there's the pattern of giving major ADWD updates right before he disappears, consistently providing tidbits on ADWD at the same time as selling something and the continuous "covered in teflon" attitude that he exudes... his blog is his shop window/mission statement to the rest of the world, and it's pretty clear in what it portrays.

Wasn't ChrisW a member of this forum at one point and then got kicked out for crossing the lines in the sands too many times?

I don't miss him and I don't value that perspective on the Martin debacle.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

He was the owner of this site at one point when no-one else was willing to step up, despite being more of a Jordan fan. He left of his own accord (but occasionally drops in these days, see above) for a long time after a rather unfortunate incident here when RJ died, which added to our reputation for snarky inappropriate comments almost as bad as Westeros. :)

And why is something from only the last page of this thread being repeated? Do you guys not read even a little previous to your posting? I refer to posts #140-146, only a few before your post, Haroos.

If you would only scroll up the page a small amount you would see it all referred to.

And Amph, your comments on this are not helpful. ChrisW - who I freely admit is a RL friend of mine - can say whatever he wants on his own site. Just like the rest of us, you yourself have been known to drop a few clangers, so get out of your glass house before you dare to cast the first stone.

I'm not a mod, but I suggest this sub-sub-subject is now closed. Move along. :)

EDIT: I'm rather proud of that terribly mixed metaphor. :p

EDIT2: By 'closed' I mean this tangent of the thread, not the whole thread itself.

it's kind of hard to follow on a 130 or so comments.
i browsed and got to that comment from chrisW(and liked it), so i posted it here.
I didn't even know he was a member here.

btw, authors, even if you are fans of them, are not gods or the sons of gods.
they make mistakes, or they write badly on occasions, they are not on a pedestal.
not every criticism is a rant, and not every commendation is deserved.
martin's "work ethics" are questionable, to me anyway, but not because of the delays, it's because of his attitude.

OMFG! Just saw that "It's done" post! Dude seriously needs to get checked, 'cos that's only gonna pi$$ a lot of people off! Didn't he previously post that he'd write "It's done" when ADWD was completed?! Then of course, obligatory sales pitch after provocative post.

Yeah, the closest i could find on his blog was one that said. "The long wait is over...no not that wait".

Is it somewhere else?

No, it's the one about the WILD CARDS comic that has been delayed for like two years by the Dabel Brothers' tomfoolery. Apparently the fact that the headline had a big WILD CARDS picture next to it was insufficient to alert people to this fact (although in fairness it doesn't show up in Feedburner, and most of the complaints are coming from people who saw the headline on there).

I dont mind waiting for books much either. I just find it sad that he will die before this book series is finished. Its just reality. 5 years+ per book. At his age, at the way he lives his life? I would be willing to bet anyone money he will die before the books are done. It will the one of the greatest almost book series of all time when that occurs.
