Apparently we're drying out here and it's going to get cold instead. This is England though, I always have an umbrella with me!

I'm gonna have Tremmy up and en route north ridiculously early Saturday. :p

What time are the proceedings kicking off? Worryingly, there are talks of a family do on Sunday which might mean a night-time journey back to London, suitably off my face, on Saturday night, which won't be fun, but I'm endeavouring to discover more. With this in mind, I plan on getting the most out of my day (and extortionately priced train fare) if so, and accordingly want to get up there and started early as possible.

I figure the train is 2 hours, and so getting to Manc for 11am is easily possible - if me and Trem turn up that early, will anyone be around for a "bevvy", as I believe you lot say?

Normally things start to get rolling between 12 and 1, but basically whenever people turn up.

Ribald told me he was coming dependent on the outcome of his Viva on Friday, so keep your fingers crossed that he's written the best ever PhD thesis on Malazan..I'd imagine he's fairly stick on for that.

So he's coming if he passes? Or is it if he fails he will need to drink all day with people who don't know him? I think I would have done that if my viva had gone bad :p

It's at Edgehill, I'm sure he'll pass, they probably had to look up what a viva was cos he was the first person to ever finish writing an actual thesis. I'd imagine that they already have a statue of him commissioned. I did suggest he take Steve with him to it, I mean, who else turns up to the viva with one of the key players, it would be like turning up to an astro-physics viva with Steven Hawking.

Yes but the British definition of cold is laughable. Laughable!

The viva is at the University of Liverpool ... and if I pass I will probably have a few drinks tomorrow night and then head home to sleep the sleep of the righteous doctors, if I fail then I will drink myself into oblivion and quite possibly wake up in Hull (a story for another time). So I am planning on attending but levels of drunkenness versus hangover with a coefficient attributed to good versus bad mood because of viva, must be considered.
