Transformers III: Return of the Derpi. I don't know. It was entertaining I guess. I liked it better than two by about "---" that much. At least it makes some of the retardedness of the second movie important for the story.

I give it 4 out of 10 Bumblebees.

Hannah next.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Saw THE IDES OF MARCH - it's OK, I wouldn't rush out to see this one in the theater. Basically, all politicians are compromised. Gotcha.

To continue the Philip Seymour Hoffman-ness, also saw MONEYBALL. Great movie, really interesting subject. And yeah, probably Pitt's best work.

Caught THE DEPARTED on TV - I had forgotten what a great movie that was.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Finally saw TERMINATOR: SALVATION. ...

...What I always found hilarious was the fact that Skynet is in the middle of a barren field, lit up like a damned Christmas tree...the resistance could easily have planned some sort of attack on something so "not hidden". It made me chuckle.

I thought T:S kept the bit from T3 that established Skynet as a virus, not a mainframe (which was the sole and only intelligent thing in that wreck of a movie). The plant was just a facility set up for the Skynet Evil Master Plan Of Doom.

In other viewing...

DON'T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME - Great documentary which establishes, beyond any doubt, that someone should graverob some cells and clone John Hughes, but only implant his memories up to approx 1986. I especially loved loved loved finally learning the background to Judd Nelson's ceiling vent joke from THE BREAKFAST CLUB.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON - every time i re-see this i am reminded how awesome this movie is. The animation is stunning, the dialogue is flawless, the characters - human and dragon - terrifically realized, and the entire finale jaw-droppingly fun to watch.

I watched Skyline. It wasn't great, but it wasn't as awful as I thought it might be. I didn't know before I watched it that it was made on such a small budget.

Went to see Paul W. Anderson's new Steampunk-infused THE THREE MUSKETEERS and you know what? It was pretty fun.

I was expecting utter dreck, but it was actually cheesy, swashbuckle-y, and good old fashioned Saturday Afternoon Matinee style fun. Quite enjoyable.

It's very basic and simple overall storywise. Heroes are heroes, villains are villains, turncloaks are turncloaks, women are women, and men are men.

It totally doesn't take itself too seriously, and what's great is that everyone KNOWS the type of film they made, there are winks and nods all over the place that this is all meant to be very tongue in cheek, I think especially King Louis XIII (Freddie Fox) and the Musketeers serving man Planchet (James Corden) are especially funny when they deliver their lines.

Oh and the girl who plays Constance (Gabriella Wilde)....Hot.

Oh, by the way, in front of the above film, I saw the new trailer for THE PHANTOM MENACE 3D...and you know what? The best thing that has been 3D-ified....? The Lucasfilm logo, everything else either didn't really SEEM 3D or wasn't all that impressive done in 3D. I think the only thing I actually NOTED as standing out was the shot of the three Naboo starfighters heading for the Droid Blockade ship.

I think the transfer on the Original trilogy films will be worse for their 3D versions than the prequels will fare, but still....consider me underwhelmed by the whole thing.

Anyways, this is the trailer in non-youtube-y 3D

I saw Contagion and now I can't stop washing my hands!!

It's very good, particularly the autopsy drilling part!! It really is scientifically accurate, I was expecting a giggle at the Hollywood science but it's pretty much spot on (albeit WORST CASE SCENARIO EVER!!). Plenty of mickey mouse virology explanations but the underlying message is correct every time. If you see it at the cinema and someone in the audience doesn't have a fake coughing fit halfway through, you're missing out :unworthy:

Just re-watching The Thing.

and something strikes me - the Norwegians were fucking badass.

Not only did they burn their own arctic base down, they chased that alien bastard across the ice.

By comparison, the Yanks have a damn poor showing over all

well duh..

We lack that antifreeze component in our blood that our friends from the frozen wastelands possess. The Yanks probably just wanted to go home and have some Budweiser & cheeseburgers

I wanted to share...

Singham is a Bollywood action movie released this year. It remains the highest-grossing film in India in 2011, and for good reason: action scenes like this.

Whereas Hollywood pussyfoots around, obeying things such as "the laws of physics" and other such nonsense, Bollywood fires a grenade in the face of reality and backflips repeatedly at the feet of Isaac Newton's grave.

It is, for want of a better word, totally redoinkulous -- and immensely rewatchable.

This isn't all that different from Chinese wire-fu. The Chinese have had about 30 years to work on their marriage of choreography, wires and camera knowhow, while Bollywood is just figuring out how to combine modern camera technology with enjoyable action scenes.

I think Anil Kapoor starred in the first of the Bollywood movies that started going after action in a big way. I remember Nayak, a doofy movie of his, in which there's a point where he's wholly covered in mud, fighting bad guys and jumping all over the place with the Matrix-style 360 degree slow cameras in the early '00s. It was revolutionary to Bollywood and that movie came out in 2001 - several years after the Matrix. Technology in Bollywood used to be 30 years behind the times. They've narrowed the gap, but in some areas, not all that much.

From then on, Bollywood sporadically produced a movie that pushed the local-to-them envelope regarding spiffy/doofy action scenes. We're getting to the point where they're starting to make noticeably higher budget scenes (like the car spinning one). It may not be as slick as what we're used to, but it's memorable in a doofy way. Kind of like many '80s movies.

The highest ever budget for a Hindi movie thus far has been $40 million. If they had $200 million like some of the Western tent-pole movies, it'd look better, but I still think they've got a long ways to go before they're even at the Michael Bay level.

That being said, Tony Jaa and Donnie Yen are working very well with lower budgets in Thai/Chinese films.

Maybe we're about ready for a Hindi Face/Off in the next few years.

Watched The Source Code last night. Liked it a lot. Would recommend.

Tried to watch Sucker Punch. Couldn't. Just refused to pull me in. It was on in the background while I pissed around on the computer.

Watched Another Earth, its a drama with a sci fi element. Satisfying ending. Somewhat predictable but worth watching. 7 out of 10 earths.
No Touchy.

Caught bits of Lesbian Vampire Killers the other night.

Am I the only person in the world who doesnt like James Corden and would happily kick him down the stairs just to see the shock in his 'chubby but loveable' face?

Live Action AKIRA film has officially offered Garret Hedlund the role of Kaneda...

http://www.comingsoo...ws.php?id=83946

Let the Hollywood whitewashing of an Asian classic begin. Fuck you Hollywood. They also couldn't get a decent director to WANT to whitewash the story, so they hired the hack who brought you such box-office turds as ORPHAN, HOUSE OF WAX and UNKNOWN.

Seriously, after J.K. Rowling refused to allow HARRY POTTER be Americanized (when the WB wanted to hire Spielberg and he wanted to set it in America and cast Haley Joel as Harry) and forced the WB to keep it distinctly British, thus creating one of the BEST FILM FRANCHISES that Warner Brothers has EVER had in the process and making them money hand over fist....WB has apparently NOT learned a lesson and is continuing to want to whitewash AKIRA (instead of the smarter option which would be to take the story idea and make an American film LIKE Akira and says "based on" instead with the new setting and new characters ect.).

Sometimes Hollywood suits running the big production companies just make me fucking irate.

Look at it this way....

It's an American adaptation of a Japanese animated flic that was itself adapted from manga... law of dilution dictates that it will be a complete mess that will be out of theaters even faster than the Dragonball thing and then the world can pretend it never happened.

Is it sad to note that I actually KNOW a number of the people involved in the production of that shitty DRAGONBALL movie?

Yes. I'm afraid that it is.

We'll just pretend this exchange never happened either.
