Fuck you, Fox. Fuck. You.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

A film based on the comicbooks? That would be a pretty tight squeze(sp?)
I hope they focus on that inkblot guy, he was the most awesome of them all.

Sigh. The film, and story focuses on Rorschach, so don't worry.
This film should NEVER have been made into a movie. I hope the lawsut ties it up for years and it doesn't get released.
Everyone in the comic book industry, a lot of fans, and above all the author himself vehemently say this is the one comic story above all that should never be made into a movie.
It will be one of the worst butcherings of a story ever, and everything that made Watchman great will be gone.
There is no way this can work. Hollywood fucks Alan Moore once again.
After League of Extraordinary Gentle, V For Vendetta, and From Hell you'd think they'd know to stop.

I don't find that surprising at all, a lot of people my age have trouble connecting with Moore's work, although I am only 2 years older. It will only get worse as time goes on.
He is a god among older comic geeks, but the younger they get, the less they understand and like him. Not suprising though, it is generally the same for books.
Sure, the classics were great, but are really that intersting by todays standards?

It really does depend on age. I was in my late teens when I first read Watchmen - when it was first collected as a trade in the late 80s - and whilst I got it, there were a lot of things I didn't appreciate about it. As time goes on and you read and learn and experience more, you begin to see more of what Moore and Gibbons put into the book (for instance there are some fairly specialist comic book history in-jokes in the "Black Freighter" stuff). I don't get on with all of Moore's work - for some reason I've never been able to get the hang of Promethea - but his skill is evident for all to see. That said, I much prefer comic book writers like Grant Morrison or Warren Ellis.
As for books, some classics are more interesting than others; for instance, I can't abide Dickens, Austen and most of the 19th century classics - they don't really say anything to me and the writing style makes my teeth ache -but give me things written before then (Tristram Shandy, Don Quixote etc.) and I can totally connect. It's all a matter of personal taste.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. I don't get on with any of Moore's work except Miracleman, which no one but serious comic fans will bother digging up. I do however, understand and agree with what makes his work great, and what does it for everyone else. Just not my favorite type of comic story. He will always be one of the greats, and possibly the only one who can never be called a sell out.

Y'know... i would have bet no one could make an X-MEN movie worth watching, and they did (arguably, they made 2); i would have bet all Batman movies since Jack rocked the Joker role would suck, and last year BATMAN BEGINS was great fun; i would have bet SIN CITY and 300 would never even be made, but they were and they were great in their own 'it's a movie! based on a comic!' sort of ways.
On the other hand, we have THE SHADOW, THE PHANTOM, FROM HELL, LoEG, SUPERMAN LIFTS STUFF...
So when it comes to WATCHMEN, while the Black Freighter, the Cold War elements, a lot of the racism and some of the 50s retro in the 80s feel are totally NOT worth reconstructing, it is possible, just possible, that it could be turned into comething cool.
- Abyss, notes Alan Moore gets a little closer to thremonuclear subreal implosion and taking out large chunks of the UK every time the attempt is made on one of his works...

I can believe you would forget Sin City, Road to Perdition, Men in Black, A History of Violence, Judge Dredd, Blade, FF, 300, Spider-Man, The Mask... I could go on, but I disgress.
The thing is, all of those movies could be adapted whether good or bad into a movie. Watchmen is the one story of them all that can't be adapted on the nature of how the story is told.

I don't know about that. I've seen that movies can be very flexible in how they tell a story. It's that usually the production companies that make them usually don't try and do anything radicaly new incase it makes what could be a failiure worse.
But I mean look at "Run Lola, Run" and "Sliding Doors", both show multiple possibilities and manager to make it entertaining and good. "Memento" was shot backwards as was another movie that has slipped my mind, and succeeds quite well at what it's trying to convey. Atmosphere has been mastered in so many ways, I think it is possible to tell the story the way it was meant to be told. You just really need the right crew.

Watched the SciFi channel's version of _Earthsea_. Or, I mean, I tried to watch it. Ooooh, that is one stinker of an adaptation. I imagine die-hard Earthsea fans were mighty PO'd with that craptacular piece of crap.

Nope, it's the one with Mena Suvari and Ving Rhames playing a completely different role from the Dawn remake, in a much worse film. Diary is the next Romero.

I just rewatched I, Robot with Will Smith.
I've never read the books so I don't know how much they screw with the story, but I really like it as a movie. The mystery of the creators death, the question of what rights a robot has and "the end game", it's all good. The graphics and the effects are superb and as will smiths charcter says himself, the film has you looking in one direction while the real culprit is right under their noses... or rather above it
