Just watched Civil War.

Not what I expected, based on the like 10 second trailer I saw I figured it was going to be stupid tomorrow war movie type.

I was wrong

What did I just watch, did I love it or just not understand it?
That was just....awesome?

Does anyone, at any point, beat someone else to death with the American flag?

I hope not. They'd just be copying from real life when that happened on 1/6/2021.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I guess he sold the bookstore in Notting Hill and decided to go his own way?

Saw Inside Out 2 with wife on Saturday gone.

How the heck did a lighthearted kids film so accurately capture an anxiety attack to the point it felt like a personal attack?

Good film overall.

Tom Hanks.
Robin Wright.
Robert Zemeckis.

And it's not Forrest Gump.

Man, that de-ageing CGI is really good these days.

Beverley Hills Cop: Axel F.

It's, ehhhhhhhhhhhh ... OK. About what you might expect really. A few kinda chuckle-y moments but nothing I really laughed at. A bit of cringe and eye-rolling but not too much.

There's a couple of up tempo moments but mostly I'd call it what it is: a downtempo callback and warm 'n' fuzzy nostalgia-fest with a few cute cameos. Even the soundtrack was recycled from the original.
I don't know if Joseph Gordon-Levitt was trying to play the straight man too hard, or he was just phoning it in.

Five sneering 80s style bad guys out of ten.

It was damn jarring watching the movie and having the realization of just how much Anxiety, Anger, and Fear run the show as an adult.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

The Batman

With no sparkles.

watched it last night rather than the football.

Pattinson does a good job of broody slightly broken.
I feel like actual story and action wise this film could have been done in 2 hours, 2 hours 20 if you wanted to keep some of the slow creep. A few too many long slow shots dragged it out a bit for me.

Overall though enjoyable, not a very super heroey kind of super hero movie, which I'm fine with.

Colin Farrell is unrecognisable as Penguin, wife didn't believe me and only I knew he was cast I would not have called it.

Corrupt Gotham, will you ever clean up your act?

Actually a bit of a better parents story for Bats in this one.

Still not the Dark Knight, and Micheal Keaton is my favourite batman but a solid solid entry

I disliked absolutely everything about the Penguin - because playing the Penguin 'straight/real' is just a flat out mistake imnsho and yes i know about the tv show, also a bad idea - but otherwise this was surprisingly enjoyable. In striking contrast to my feelings about the Penguin, i think there is space for a Batman played dark and real and this movie did a, entertaining job with it. I mean, i liked Keaton revisiting Bats in (the incredibly badly executed but entertaining at times) FLASHPOINT too.

DESPICABLE ME 4 has no right to be as much fun as it was. 4th go for this series, like the 7th if you count the MINIONS movies, and they still manage to nail beat after beat, and drop in the occasional adult joke without breaking stride. The whole 'MegaMinions' subplot is so thoroughly loaded with comic book references it's insane. The background gags in the school for supervillains are just as brilliant.

Went on a date to Fly Me to the Moon. It's a surprisingly competent rom com centered around NASA, the moon landing, and some degree of women having cool back stories.

I don't know that Tatum absolutely fits the role, but he's good at being likable and working with Johansson, who's carrying the movie constantly.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Looks like it could be interesting.

Plus James Hetfield! :headbang: (the member with username James Hetfield has a birthday today, by sheerest coincidence)

The trailer makes it look like a guaranteed disaster.
