Disney plus has a lot of stuff the kids haven't seen yet. They watched Return to Oz today. Underrated film, I think.

If you told the makers of The Wizard of Oz that the sequel would feature a scene where Dorothy is nearly bitten by the head of a witch, while her headless body sits up in bed and then chases her while all her other heads scream in their own little head cabinets they would have thought you were crazy.

The kids loved it.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

This flick was the source of my Fairuza Ballk crush that I nurtured long enough that when THE CRAFT came out in the mid-90's, I recall her being in it as the sole reason I wanted to see it.

I was 8 and she was what, 10 when RETURN TO OZ came out? Just a little older than me. I was into it.

Funnily enough, later in life and including now I don't find her remotely attractive as an adult. Like I wonder what I was smoking.

That's a great flick though. It's about as insane as it gets, and the clockwork robot always makes me smile.

They're still pretty fucking creepy.

I've been watching a lot of childhood flashbacks recently also.

Watched Flight of the Navigator last night. I'd watched it so many times when i was a kid i almost remembered the whole damn thing.

Escape to Witch Mountain next.

Two movies last night.

Peter Rabbit. This was fun and surprisingly well made and polished. I think it would be great for a family watch as there's plenty of silly visual humour for the kids, it's pretty much the Stooges slapstick in places, but a solid enough story and dialogue to be funny for the adults as well.

Mike and Dave get Wedding Dates.
The beats are predictable for the most, but they all land very well, good cast that gels well together, I like DeVine a lot and Aubrey Plaza is great.

Overall don't be expecting anything ground breaking, but if you like Bad neighbours and that kind of film this is a handy fun, a little rude but not overly, comedy. The opening sequence and subsequent meeting with parents is hilarious

It doesn't have the charm and the empathetic characters of the original. It does have some slamming action sequences that are incredible and worth the watch. I didn't hate it, but it clearly should have been its own action movie rather than a Point Break remake.

I just may have to watch it, but I have to know, and this will tip it in favor of me giving it a go... is there an updated version of the line: "I am an F.B.I. agent!" ?

The best thing about that trailer is the way the narrator says "velocipastor".

Read that Brian Dennehy has died. He was understated as an actor. Most probably know him as "Big Tom", the dad from Tommy Boy. I really enjoyed him in the first Rambo movie - First Blood. I know Rambo II and the movies that followed really amped-up the action, but for my money there is something about First Blood that really resonates more then the 'splosions eye porn the others brought. Dennehy as Sheriff Teasle really magnified the narrative of a former Vietnam veteran being unwelcome back home after the war. Excellent movie if you've never seen it. Highly reccommend. RIP Brian Dennehy

Venom sequel is going to be called, "Venom: Let There Be Carnage." No hiding mysteries with that title. Sounds like it could be badass though. It's been delayed, like a lot of stuff, due to that which should not be named.

Have to still watch Venom. Is it any good?

Finally got to watch El Camino. Pretty simple, nothing groundbreaking, but a solid movie. Nice send off for Jesse.

Saw this link heading: "Netflix's 'Extraction' Is John Wick Running A 'Call Of Duty' Campaign Mission, In A Good Way."

Thought it was clickbait but it piqued my curiosity and I found the trailer. There could be something to it.

So (of course I start with "so", just for you Maccy), I've watched quite a few movies over the last week or so now that I can.

It: Pt 2. I guess I'm disappointed, but I really shouldn't be. The child section of the book is easily the scarier of the two. So, it is going to be the scarier of the two in movie form. But, putting it in that perspective, the 2nd movie held up fairly well I think. The cast was excellent, but I'm not sure Ben got the proper amount of material he should have. I think it tried to give equal play to all the characters and it didn't work out so well. Frankly, Mike's part in the book expanded (I could be remembering this incorrectly) was not helpful. Maybe necessary for the ending, but it was tedious. Actors are good actors, but they didn't have a lot to work with. Loved Bill Hader as Richie. 6 out of 10.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Blah. Blah blah blah. Some decent action scenes. 4 out of 10.

Yesterday: Ahhhh. Yes. I so love this movie. Loving the Beatles helps tremendously. Lily Collins can be my friend. 8 out of 10.

Us: Somehow satisfying despite being predictable and having far too many "are you seriously that stupid to be doing this haven't you ever seen a scary movie before!" moments. I credit the masterful soundtrack. The end scene with the remixed "I got 5 on it" was straight up fantastic. Violins and Lunis? Hell yes!. Interesting movie and chock full of thought-provoking subtext. 7.5 out of 10.

Blinded By the Light: I love Bruce Springsteen. I loved this movie. 8 out of 10.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Finally got to see PARASITE. I already like the directors work, but man this was really a step above. SUCH a poignant story of class struggle that effortlessly showcases the issue. The exorbitantly rich force the poor to fight amongst themselves for table scraps.

Next up, HOTEL MUMBAI which I've wanted to see since theatres.

HOTEL MUMBAI was excellent, though I would give a slight edge to the documentary about the incident I watched if only because it doesn't need some of the extra drama in the film version as the real incident was already plenty dramatic without embellishing it. Still, a solid solid flick about the tragedy.
