Two films ago Dom collapsed a building by stamping his footy-woot and in this very trailer he appears to catch a car with his bare hands. The tensile strength of some rope is minor stuff in this series.

The Rock catches an attack helicopter with a chain, and at one point pulls it towards the ground with upper body strength alone. It is unrealistic because the chain isn't thick enough to sustain that sort of strain.

I haven't been paying attention to the oscar debate but is there serious issues behind the lack of female directors nominated at the Oscars?

Has somebody compiled a list of great movies this year, directed by women, that are more deserving than the 6 movies that were nominated for best director?

As far as I'm aware, at least in Denmark, there's always been more male directors than female directors and as such, it's less likely a woman gets nominated or wins an award. You shouldn't be nominating movies just to fill out a quota. You might want to look at what's stopping women from becoming directors, though.

I haven't seen ... pretty much any of the movies nominated, but from what I can tell the debate is/was about how there is a list of movies directed by women that were apparently just as good if not better than either all of those actually nominated or most of them.

The trouble with subjectivity is that even when you take out conscious or even unconscious bias ... it's still subjective.

True, but if there are a number of excellent movies made by women out there, then it looks a little weird when all the nominees are men. It does, if not prove then at least hint at some level of bias. Especially considering it's a pretty obvious trend rather than a single isolated incident.

Yeah, obviously there are more men than women directing out there, but enough so that in the last 20 years, out of 100 nominations available for Best Director only 3 have been for women, with 1 winner? Seems unlikely.
I don't think it's just an Oscars thing, it's a general promotion thing (hell, I only just realised how few female-directed movies I actually see even though a number are on my list and have been for ages), but it's certainly something the Oscars could be more proactive about.
