Speaking of I just watched Suicide Squad and yes it was terrible and yes Leto was a rubbish Joker but I went in with very low expectations do I didn't hate it as much as I thought I was going to. Margot Robbie played a great Harley Quinn and I always seem to enjoy what Will Smith does. Glad I didn't spend money on it and go to the cinema or anything else but I'm glad I watched it.

I agree with QT that the Joker doesn't need a set origin, but since it's not tied into any continuity, and since I don't otherwise agree that the Joker is necessarily best shown being evil just because (some of the best writers of the Joker have subscribed to One Bad Day after all), I think that as a standalone project it looks like a very interesting film.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I've only watched the first toy story, way back when it came out, I've also never watched any of the cars films or Up.

This is an entirely fair assessment since it's essentially standalone. I still don't think I'm interested, but I take the point.
That said, IF this is all more unreliable narrator stuff with the joker is screwing with the audience about everything...I will be interested...

I watched Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. Much better than its predecessor, Pokemon Go To the Polls. I'm not familiar with this iteration of the cartoon, but it was pretty funny. On the same wavelength as the Lego movies, but maybe a smidge more impudence.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I don’t care about the Jokers origins or motivations or intelligence.
I just want to see a good movie.

All the hemming and hawing and hen house cackling about nonsense is well, just that, nonsense.
It looks interesting enough to me. I'll wait and see how it is scored and reviewed, but as of right now, I'm intrigued at what the trailer has given us so far.

I take it you don't much care for The Killing Joke, then?
Not the adaptation, mind you, but the widely regarded as one of the best Joker comics ever one?
I haven't even seen the trailer for this yet but I see a lot of people writing it off because of the origin story thing. Now, as much as I like the whole no origin story thing and the totally super subtle use of Joker = Liar every time he tells a new origin to someone for the lulz, I don't think it is actually some critical characteristic. TKJ proved that, even if you take the view that TKJ, like most other Joker origin stories (and there are several) are actually just hypothetical extrapolations of his lies and don't set any canon.

Watching Top Gun. I disagree this is a bad movie that needs no sequel. I’m quite excited. Give me some F 35 eye candy destruction of the enemy.
Who's saying Top Gun is a bad film? It's one of the best action (American propaganda) films of the 80s. It's so tropey.

Nope. Hate it. The Joker being some random schmoe engineer who is driven mad and to Villainy by 'loss' and 'situation' is WAY too tropey for a villain, and let's him get a sympathy vote.
Especially a Batman villain whose Rogues Gallery is already filled with the exact same base origin story. The Riddler, Victor Fries, The Penguin....they are all variations of "normal individual becomes villain because some shit happened to turn them bad"....whereas the Joker always felt like an outlier to me (and Alan Moore is on record as TKJ never having been meant to be canon/in continuity anyways; he always saw it as an elseworlds tale) as the villain who didn't have some tragic backstory, that he was just cold, calculating, and unpredictable.
I don't think it's unfair to want one of Batman's enemies to be just evil/bad without triggers that make him that way. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Watched BUMBLEBEE last night and it was excellent. That opening 5 minutes on Cybertron though...was better than all the previous TF movies combined. FIVE MINUTES of live action TF perfection. Please let BB be a soft reboot of the franchise and give Travis more films in the series!

surely Heath Joker falls into that.
his father was horribly abusive to him, physically disfigured him and clearly fucked him up. He is a human, something happened that made him "bad".
Does he play it very well, yes, but there is a clear link to his childhood trauma and what makes the joker the "insane" bad guy? yes

Huh? Heath's Joker is the purposely the unreliable narrator who's back-story keeps changing throughout the film. None of it is true.

I quite like the theory that he's an ex-soldier who got fucked up in a truck explosion, but I'm glad the film didn't make that or any other backstory the canon.
But yeah, like I say, I don't have any problem with the Joker having a backstory, he's not Hannibal Lecter and I think the explanation can suit his theme, I just don't want to know with any certainty what it is. It's one of the great things about the Joker that he's so damn mutable while always being recognisably the Joker. Another way in which he's the opposite of Bats, who although he clearly has some differences especially in the Adam West version is generally a fairly fixed point and it's his world that mutates depending on writer/context etc. The Joker being the ultimate embodiment of that.

On the one hand, I agree that a Joker origin story is inherently unsavory...on the other hand, the fact that it's a one-off thing with no connection to any 'canon' is a strong point too. Comics are rife with these kinds of things, right? There's canon and then there's letting individual authors try their hands at a classic character independent of canon (not to mention actual What If type books). The bigger question mark here, for me at least, is gonna be the angle they take. Is this gonna be Taxi Driver or Bad Lieutenant, where you watch a bad guy continue to unravel? Could be dark fun. Or is this gonna be yet another anti-hero thing, where lip service is paid to the guy being a villain while you're asked to sympathize with his plight...sure what he did was wrong, but society made him do it! Hopefully it's not that.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

It's not a popular opinion but I always thought Nicholson was a rubbish Joker. Great bad guy/psychopath, far too controlled in his mannerisms and his general behaviour to be a Joker I liked.
ps I know that Joker is realistically possibly the only villain who could carry his own movie and if there are others than it's, like, two or three, but the idea of villain standalones makes me want to see a Mads Mikkelsen as Vandal Savage movie.
Also, more realistically probably, for Marvel to do Doom.
