I find that whole scene at Rivendell with the first meeting of the fellowship is horribly filtered. It's got a weird orange tint that seems present on all versions I've seen.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Went to see Mary Poppins Returns yesterday. I'm very fond of the original and wasn't sure what I was going to think. I really enjoyed it - Emily Blunt is wonderful and it hits all the emotional notes of the first one pretty successfully.

Bird Box: first half hour is pretty good, then it gets to the first foraging scene and takes a real nosedive into stupidity that it rarely comes out of (and it's a full two hours long, before credits). 2 out of 5 bird bonx.

Watched Paddington yesterday.

What a delightful film, and an excellent Paddington

So, I was flipping around and found this turd of a movie called Ghosts of Mars. Holy crap it's a terrible movie (directed by John Carpenter surprisingly). I've never heard of it, but it has Ice Cube, the hot chick from Species, Pam Grier and that douche nozzle Jason Statham. Do not watch this movie. It is baaaaaaad. But if you must, you'll get a kick out of Jason Statham. He is in full on 'bald denial' mode. Yikes, he looks corny as shit in this. Dude had no self awareness of how bad he looks. He's a shitty actor in this (hasn't improved any over the years, imo) and his goofy look makes it (just maybe) worth the pain of watching. I checked the year, and it's a 2001 movie.

I see your GHOSTS OF MARS and raise you DEEP BLUE SEA 2.

There is nothing at all good about this movie, other than how very very bad it is.

Wait....they made a sequel to DBS? Sweet lords no.

Deep Blue Sea was sure fun though.

Probably not anymore but then I had fun.

For a second I thought we were discussing DEEP RISING...which is a prime guilty pleasure flick (I mean, a cruise ship attacked by Lovecraftian deep sea phallic shaped monsters who can eat you in seconds defended by Treat Williams and Famke Janssen)...

But you know what? DEEP BLUE SEA is still pretty fun. I re-watched it a few years back. It holds up. I mean, it's Renny Harlin (hit or miss), but also features Saffron Burrows (yum), Pre-Punisher Thomas Jane, and LL Cool J survives the whole shebang even though he's threatened with shark death like 5 times. It's great fun!

This is all I gotta say about Deep Blue Sea: http://www.parrotfor...p-blue-sea.html

Here's a good movie I watched recently: Support the Girls (now on Hulu!). It takes place mostly over one eventful day at a Hooters style restaurant, and it manages to balance slice-of-life realism with some genuinely hilarious comedy and -- while it's not super plot-heavy -- it kind of sneaks up on you and there is a climax and denouement that really packs a wallop. Regina Hall is stellar.

Oh, deep rising! I've been wondering what that film was called. I want to rewatch that film.

All I really remember is a guy getting pulled through a toilet while he was taking a shit.

DEEP BLUE SEA was pure shark action movie awesome. Every character death is flawlessly executed for maximum shock AND cheesy silliness. Even the parrot.

DEEP RISING was better than DEEP BLUE SEA 2.

Strong John Wick vibes with this. Also, Lagertha!

I'm watching Bird Box. With every passing year Sandra Bullock looks more and more like Cher.

Edit: About an hour in. This film is strange. It's two different films. Like somebody tried to mix the happening with ... The Road on water?

It's sorta like a good b-movie.

Holy crap! There is already a teaser trailer for Jason Reitman's secret GHOSTBUSTERS film (which will be a direct sequel to the original two films, and ignore Paul Feig's 2016 abomination, and has been quietly in production for a while already apparently), and feature a new young cast being passed the torch!

This gave me chills. Sad they won't be able to have Egon as Ramis has passed, but the rest of them could be up for a "old crowd passes torch to new crowd" flick.
